I regret not getting a more focused tune rather than the generic one I got...

There was a guy on the Skoda FB group that got one on his diesel and it gave no end of trouble but it turned out the workshop had never done that model diesel and weren't that experienced on VW product - so maybe a bit more research needed and the workshop should have used him as a research project.

Interesting comment Brad, always thought you were happy with your Bluefin, I was thinking about getting Bluefin myself. Strikes me that their tunes are quite conservative in terms of claimed power output although most reports I've seen are from people who are happy with the product. Are you saying you wish you had gone for a higher output tune?

Probably biggest regret is buying a car that fundamentally was limited in the output/performance that was achievable. Only way forwards was to sell and start again...

From what I have gleaned from motoring reports , the problem for Australians is that our fuel is not up to standards of overseas countries in terms of RON stated levels . So to prevent possible engine failures they are detuned to save customers from detonation .

I'm not unhappy with the BlueFin. I think it was excellent value for ~$660 and the only tune with a user install/remove option at the time (which I've used once).

When I installed the Bluefin in Nov 2009 @ 31437km I thought I'd have the car until mid-2014 and then pass it on to my daughter. Things didn't quite work to plan (she delayed getting licence until 2017 and CBF getting a manual licence and by then we'd inherited my fathers automatic Honda which she uses).
Daughter #2 was next in line for the Octy this year but she's going slow too and also CBF getting a manual licence as well (WTF is wrong with kids these days?)

So here we are in 2018 having hit 190,000km last week and a little more power and torque in the last 9 years might have been nice.

Kids these days .... I did not give mine a choice though .... all 3 have manual licenses, we did not own an auto for them to learn on. Probably why #1 daughter took 2.5 years from learner to Ps ..... eventually when we stopped driving her around she got moving on it. That said, she immediately went and bought a new CX-3 auto

The other 2 are perfectly happy with manuals and that is what they drive now.

RE Tuning, all my VWs have always had tunes on them. Love it and would not live without it .... current 110TSI yet to get tuned although I've done the research work already. Project 150TSI is in the works, with the 1st serious mod acquired this morning actually.

Amarok at 200kw is a beast and absolutely still loving it. Mustang still not tuned, although lots of other mods so far. Being a Ford I've been reluctant to mess with the tune, but will have that done before XMas (or maybe for Xmas for me)
