    Error code interpretation & thoughts?

I had the 'check engine' light come on the other day, a day after my car's starting-up became a tad more laboured, for want of a better word... Just a tad, it has to turn over for about an extra second to start.

Anyway, just now, after a bit of trying this & that, i finally got my TorquePro android app to pair with the OBD bluetooth thingy, & investigated the 'check fault codes' section. The message for code P0016 was this: "Powertrain Crank - cam position correlation".

Any tech's or knowledgeable ones out there have any thoughts on causes or remedies? Car is running perfectly normal after it starts. I have it booked into Camberwell VW, but the earliest they can look at it is next Friday.

    Thanks in advance!

    Matt.

Google the fault code, and how it relates to your engine. You may uncover a common fault.

That fault code could suggest a few things. One being that the camshaft position sensor is faulty, or maybe the timing chain has stretched, or the tensioner is faulty, or it could be as simple as the battery on it's way out. Hopefully it's something cheap and simple.

Whatever you do, don't delete the fault code in the mean time.

    Thanks for the reply, mate.

I googled it, as you suggested. A link took me to VWGolfMk6 forum with faulty coil packs being another possible cause. Thought about erasing the code (not sure if the app has the ability to do that?) just to see if it reappears, but have left it for the dealership to interrogate... They told me as long as the car feels the same to drive & the check engine is not flashing, just keep driving it.

As you said, hopefully something cheap & simple...

Or i still have 5 months left on warranty...
