According the PDS - this is what it says: (Point 2)

All vehicle servicing should be carried out by the selling dealer or an Authorised service facility holding a franchise for vehicles of the same make as your vehicle

Yeah man, that means a VAG/warranty issuer approved service centre which pretty much means a Volkswagen dealership. Can you see VAG approving an independent workshop that steals their profits from servicing...?

The five year transmission warranty is part of the manufacturer's factory warranty, so servicing the car at any qualified workshop other than the dealer will not affect this.

For issues relating to repairs that are no longer covered after the factory warranty or warranties have expired, the terms and conditions of any extended warranty that is underwritten by a third-party, irrespective of whether or not the policy was sold or promoted via a dealership, may (or may not) be different to that of the manufacturer's factory warranty in terms of servicing requirements, so it's always advisable to double-check the fine print and clarify any queries (preferably before one signs the dotted line, but that's just me).

The term "franchise" is concerning, because it usually (but not always) refers to a dealer.

You may want to clarify this with the policy issuer.

Ok guys thanks. Automatically thought when I saw Authorised Service Facility it was fine to take it. Obviously overlooked the term franchise

I could have sworn when i spoke to the rep with the insurance he said i could take it to any approved mechanic, as long as the proper oils/filters etc etc are used.

And why are my posts still stuck on 35! Hasn't moved for months!

Don't take our word for it (we're not the ones underwriting your policy) so clarify it with them.

IIRC, posts made in the General Discussion section don't count towards one's post count, apparently?

No, and why should they go to the trouble of certifying and monitoring everyone who wants to service their cars? Some don't even have the correct equipment. Does any other manufacturer do that? I doubt it.

New gearbox? It's the mechatronics unit they MAY replace. Why MAY... well, the unit may have already been replaced with a newer model during previous warranty work. If that is the case then there would be no need to replace it again.

I have no issue with that.

With the rattling you "could" have the same issue as on the Polo GTI's (as they use the exact same twin charged engine) the rattle comes from a fault in the camshaft positioner for the VVT. It rattles for 2-3 seconds after the engine is started. It would be a good place to look.
thank you mate, now i have a bit clue. definitely will mention this when i send the car back.
would the issue of camshaft positioner cause any problem?

    cheers,
    roy
