I believe they've always done the right thing by most of the customers and you know very well that some people can't be pleased, nomatter what.

Bet that was the same for AUS. They have long known and long planned for a late stage recall. Media pressure changed that.
But, that media pressure is using the stories that aren't related to the DSG faults, for them it's enough if the car has the VW badge. Well, it only confirms that the media paparazi will do anything for what could look like a good story. How easy we forgot?

No doubt it's frustrating that all this media activity was caused by incorrectly linking a "faulty VW" with the passing of a motorist.

At the end of the day, this has caused upsides to some and downsides to others.

Most importantly (IMHO), VW have finally stepped up to the plate and admitted there is a fault requiring attention. Without this media hype, I doubt a recall would ever be made in Australia. I'm also looking forward to the day I head into a VW service centre that will *hopefully* no longer tell me "they all do that".

If all this negative attention will assist me with getting my car correctly diagnosed, then to me the job is done. I want to keep enjoying this car for its intended purpose.

Like they are still using footage of a Tiguan driving in Melbourne when they talk of the DSG issues, even though the Tiguan is not the subject of this recall. Yes, it is just the VW badge they are after. They would even use video of a Commodore if someone stuck a VW badge on the Commodore.

VW does have a job rebuilding its image world wide, and this will take a long time. What they do not want to do is make things worse by trying to recover the cost of this recall from customers in other ways. That would be a stupid move.

I 100% agree and was always saying that the dealers should be able to repair the cars that need repairing. We shouldn't need the media to get the car fixed, that's just wrong.

The media are well know to manipulate the public opinions, very often bringing the stories that have the important facts deliberatelly left out, using the old footage just to spice their stories. Yes, IMO they can't be trusted, hopefuly the internet can keep them on the leash.

Official DSG Voluntary Recall Letter - Read here

    Hello all,

A copy of the e-mail sent last night to me... it is quite specific and easy to understand.

    DSG woes in The Age

If the media didn't put the spotlight on VW do you guys honestly think VW would have done this recall when previously they were stating that the dsg in Australia wasn't the same as those in Japan, Malaysia, Singapore?

agree. lets not be quick to bite the hand that fed us. some have been asking for VW assistance for some time. it took the media to make VW move. I'd rather have our media focusing on 'serious' issues like this than filling screens and print with 'celebrity' drivel...

Unfortunately as a Tig owner with a DSG, i am still stuck with the most crapful clunky gearbox it has ever been my misery to use. But "all within vw specs". So basically designed to be dreadful.

And surely vwa know i own a Tig so perhaps no need to send me a recall letter for everything but a Tig. Unless the DQ500 boxes are next??????

As far as I ma aware the DQ500 is the best version of the box and desn't have any of the issues of hte other ones.
It is more likely that the car is geared for fuel economy or you may not have been givne the run down on how to use the gearbox effectively.

I agree 100%. VW Australia have been dragging their feet, making up baloney about how Japan has a special climate.
I want VW to fix the 6 speed DSG issues, too.
