[U][B]When one of the injectors fail, the whole car shuts down - often while driving - including the power steering.

I have found with my Passat 130TDI that when waiting at traffic lights, about to make a LH turn, the engine stops.
OK this is Blue motion in action. BUT then the steering returns to neutral, VERY firmly.

So what would happen if engine shutdown occurred while driving?

    Frankly, I am now nervous

Is yours a bluemotion with stop start though? Because if it is and the engine keeps running when stopped, might want to head to a dealership.....

Yes as posted in my sig and if you dont hold brake on hard the engine doesnt stop or if it has you can start it again by lifting the foot a bit to still hold the brake on but not hard enough to turn the motor off. If you know the area you live in you can anticipate at the lights by lifting your foot a bit before lights change and so avoid a delay in getting going when the green comes on and the motor has been stopped.

Tells you that in the manual or literature about the car.

On my way back from friends this evening there was an item on the radio where the recall has extended to 1750 Skoda and 6000 Audi vehicles as well.

I also see that VW have announced a similar action in NZ.

Just got an Email from VW that contains this Notice it says GEARBOX UNIT

As part of this continued commitment, we will voluntarily recall 25,928 vehicles fitted with a
7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) transmission (DQ200).

The recall will be conducted across Golf, Jetta, Polo, Passat and Caddy models produced between June 2008 and September 2011.

If your vehicle is affected, we will formally contact you in July to schedule an appointment for inspection and replacement of necessary parts. Replacement of the gearbox unit will be free of charge. Please be assured that you can continue to drive your vehicle as usual until the appointment.

This recall does not affect any Volkswagen vehicles currently being produced or sold.

    I have a 6 speed DSG with a juddering/shuddering issue.

The ACCC Recall app is saying the 6 speed has been recalled. The link points to this page:

    What are the defects?
The direct shift gearbox (DSG) may read the clutch temperature incorrectly and activate the clutch protection function. This will illuminate a flashing gear warning light and cause juddering of the vehicle, a reduction in engine torque, and opening of the clutch, reduction of engine torque an opening of clutch (no drive).
    What are the hazards?
Loss of power to the wheels may in certain circumstances pose a hazard to the vehicle occupants and other road users.
    Where the product was sold

    Nationally

    Traders who sold this product
    Volkswagen authorised dealers
    Supplier
    Volkswagen Group Australia
    What should consumers do?
A letter has been sent to affected owners. Customers can contact their local dealer to arrange for a vehicle check-up, and if necessary, repair of the fault.

It is strange that it has a 2013 reference number: "PRA number: 2013/13625" but also says "3rd November 2009".

Can someone explain this? The media seems to be concentrating on the 7 speed DSG. I see plenty of other 6 speed DSG owners complaining of issues. I am in an ongoing discussion with VW on my 6 speed issue. I have not had any response to my emails since this blew up in the media, 2 weeks ago.

    Any assistance is appreciated.

And Gavs there are certain conditions that have to be met for the blue motion to work. If the engine is cold, if the battery is low, if the system was just used, or the following items are on consuming a lot of power it will usually keep the engine running (or the charge that it has saved up is chewed up within seconds - thus starting the engine automatically):

    Radio
    Lights
    Interior fans
    Heated seats
    12v sockets

Or if the Air conditioning compressor is on - it will never turn off the engine.

I also think if the gearbox is in N on DSG cars it will not turn off the engine. With manual cars it MUST be in N for the system to work.

Also the blue motion disable button will obviously stop the system running (but its position is reset every ignition cycle) so you can't keep it off permanently.

Apparently there is option in VCDS that can fix that though which is a must have. How can you expect to get a quick start every time if it keeps turning off the engine. Not to mention starter motor life expectancy and everything else that is put under stress at ignition.
