But I do agree. Sticking to the facts and not speculating is the way to go. There is link earlier in this thread to a Singapore sourced article. In it VW are quoted as saying there was an issue with sulphur in the Dsg7 Mechatronics hydraulic oil reacting and breaking down with plastic parts of the the electronic circuitry. Resulting in short circuits. In singapore they recalled and replaced the mechatronics unit with a revised version.
AFAIK this has not been done here in Australia yet. Now if I was to speculate......

Haha. Key word I used was "pure". I put up images from my VW manual and the other user actually checked his car as opposed to a lot of what I read here about persons telling them x and y

I also labelled my speculation as guesses based on what VW and LUK have released to the public. I think we need more debates along these lines and your sulphur line as oppose to those debating jobs in Australia.

Even lemon laws and their differences in each country would be better to debate as it helps determine which countries manufacturers choose to do them but I digress...

I have to say that what has intrigued me about this thread is that there are many complaining but very few have actually taken steps to do anything to alert regulators. I lodged a complaint with the ACCC and got a call back where they indicated no one else had reported anything. I wonder how many of those who wrote letters to the newspapers have actually formally complained to VW or the ACCC or the Department of Infrastructure and Transport?

Maybe they believe that social media will come to the rescue. I seriously doubt it as despite everything, VW are still not really doing or committing to anything. They are asking affected owners to contact them and they will then examine the vehicles and take any necessary action. Well, they would have to do that anyway, and supposedly have done this already when owners have reported issues with their cars when they had them serviced by their dealers. No doubt the response was "standard for that type of vehicle" and that is what they will receive now.

Even the articles and campaigns by various newspapers have not done much. I have not seen any pieces where the Department of Infrastructure and Transport has been interviewed on this.

What has happened is that (as has been pointed out) all VW vehicles have been tarred with the same brush. They are all considered dodgy. As a result, any resale value has gone out the window. I mean why would anyone buy a secondhand one? Why would any dealer trade one in as the scrap value would be eaten up by the transport costs involved. This is whether the vehicle being sold/traded has had any issues or not.

If there was to be a social media campaign, then it should have had a clear strategy. The strategy seems to have been "heap rubbish on all VWs and then when the market share dips, VW will do something about it". In all honesty, I don't really think that VW give two hoots about the resale value of their cars. They are in business to make and sell NEW cars. All this has done is see that VWs have the lowest possible resale value. If that was their intention (and it appears to be), then it is mission accomplished. Personally i would have preferred it if VW actually did something about the problems.

I did, I contacted all relevant government agencies all the while, attempting to liaise with VGA only to be completely ignored.

Why would a federal government department step in? They don't care at this stage, as far as they know, they're going to certainly have a new boss in a few months at the goal posts will probably shift when the new minister takes over. As far as they're concerned, unless it gets bad enough they won't do anything because they might not have a job in a few months...

You seem to all forget that there are two sides here. You all mention about the unobjective comments and personal attacks. I have just re-read through this entire thread and I have to point the finger at you lot making remarks like "petulant child", "grandpa has to go to bed" etc. It is as a collective group that the personal attacks started and as such, he was forced into rebuttal.

A lot of you need to take a step back and have a think about the situation because its all well and good to say "I would have just pressed the left pedal" or "I would have calm and calculated and looked in my mirrors, pressed the hazard lights switch, applied the left pedal and slowly applied the handbrake while steering into the emergency lane..." Crap.

I was in the car on Saturday on the eastern at 10am, heading down to the beach to enjoy the day fishing. My girlfriend was driving her 207 and it experienced a similar scenario. Luckily for her it has somewhat happened before. The throttle became unresponsive and the brakes became aggressively bitey. A light feather made the car lurch with brake dive. The gearbox dropped its gear with an almighty bang and she pulled over. From the loss of drive to the point of hitting the hazards was about 5 seconds, we came to a stop in about 8-9 seconds. She knew exactly what was going on and exactly what to do.

And all of you get on you soapboxes and puff out your chests saying that you could have done all that in 3 seconds because you "know what to do" and that Ms Ryan didn't?

I know that I'm not alone when I say that I find some of the posts in this thread comical, especially when they follow a personal attack on someone that the same posters are saying should stop with the personal attacks....

If the transmissions are failing because of overheating and they already have an oil cooler, then they need a bigger one. If they don't have one, then they need one.

Unfortunately fitting an oil cooler is not simple as the pump has to be able to pump around the longer circuit. It may need an electric pump.

One of the issues raised has been that when crawling in traffic, there is insufficient air flow over the mechatronics unit to dissipate the heat. It may need a fan or ducting from the existing radiator fan to help with cooling.

This is specific to the dq200 because the clutches don't have oil to cool them. Mine overheated last week after seeing kaanage and driving back up punt road. The crawl up the hill moving 5 meters at a time after being already warm with heat soak (on a rainy Melbourne night) was too much for the dsg. I could feel it getting worse so I had to turn off down the back streets to make I cool down.

There is a duct in the underpan of the car but that aims more at the region on the 'box where the diff is. The mechatronics shouldn't over heat, it's a box with a circuit board, a hydraulic pump and a whole lot of valves. Unless its heat soak related, I can't see a mech unit over heating, other than if the circuit board catches fire, I've seen photos of that happening...

Haha - pretty good, but seriously if you bought a VW you probaby took out fully comp insurance. Torch it, and go buy a new car with the insurance cheque. Don't forget to take off the wheels and remove the RNS510 first. Makes it look like a legit theft.
