He's got a point though.
You're kidding yourself if you think you can drive a DSG-equipped vehicle the same was an automatic. Sure, they have the same amount of pedals, and the gearstick looks pretty much the same, but everything you know goes out the window when you stab the throttle to make a quick getaway, leaving you the same effect as giving a manual car a gut full of revs, and dropping the clutch.

Anyone blaming the consumer for how the dsg is driven in traffic is missing the point. Why?
VW does NOT tell the consumer anything about driving it differently than any other automatic transmission.
If it was down to how consumers drove in traffic being te cause of issues then why doesn't the dq250 suffer the same issues in heavy traffic on the scale of the dq200?
The consumer has no control over the clutch slippage for the most part. It is the last thing on their mind.

The point I'm making is that it is not consumer ready the way it is being sold. It has been released before all the issues have been worked through. Buyers are treating it like a normal automatic gearbox, and it is simply not suited to it. This does not make the buyers wrong as it has been sold as an "automatic".
Now that it has been released, it is up to VW to rectify things.

If the transmissions are failing because of overheating and they already have an oil cooler, then they need a bigger one. If they don't have one, then they need one.
Unfortunately fitting an oil cooler is not simple as the pump has to be able to pump around the longer circuit. It may need an electric pump.
One of the issues raised has been that when crawling in traffic, there is insufficient air flow over the mechatronics unit to dissipate the heat. It may need a fan or ducting from the existing radiator fan to help with cooling.
except when it is you doing the speculation it seems
But I do agree. Sticking to the facts and not speculating is the way to go. There is link earlier in this thread to a Singapore sourced article. In it VW are quoted as saying there was an issue with sulphur in the Dsg7 Mechatronics hydraulic oil reacting and breaking down with plastic parts of the the electronic circuitry. Resulting in short circuits. In singapore they recalled and replaced the mechatronics unit with a revised version.
AFAIK this has not been done here in Australia yet. Now if I was to speculate......
