Coasting would not slow you down at a significant rate that someone behind could not avoid you if they were paying due care and attention.
It actually takes a fair amount of time to slow a car down from 100km/h without using the brakes.

if brakes are used it might be impossible for a golf but its not impossible, plenty of cars will brake under 3 secs once they have 5 zeros behind the first digit.

But herein lies the dilemma...

How do you alert the person behind you that you are coming to a stop? Most likely, in a panic at such an unexpected turn of events, you would hit the brakes to light up the brake lights.

It certainly wouldn't be intuitive to keep your foot in the air and punch the hazard light button. (I'll need to practice that...)
