We are a long way off.
Strap your self in because I'm about to go full conspiracy theorist.
Full autonomous self driving cars will be highly regulated because of who is liable. The manufacturer will end up being liable for accidents and because of this my prediction is that we will never be able to personally own a self driving car. Instead of ownership you will subscribe to a monthly service which includes everything like insurance, fuel, maintenance. Most people will use a shared car service that is on a schedule or on demand, other options include coffee, snacks and turning off advertisements.
Only very well off people will have a non-shared car but they still won't own it. It will drive away at night for it's daily charge.
