    Dog lovers

    Howdy dubdubbers.

    For all the dog lovers out there (especially those with leather interiors) I am wondering how you transport your dogs.

    As in, a doggy trailer is the easiest but quite expensive and a bit full-on for the casual doggie person.
    Next step is a station wagon or ute or 4wd. That’s fair enough, but I’m not a fan.

    So, who of us here own a sedan (or even a coupe) and chuck your dogs in the backseat there?

    What kind of protection can be laid down, other than a dodgy old picnic blanket? Are their specialist mats or protectors? It seems the dog world has every kind of accessory and I am sure there is a solution.

    I am looking at getting a German Sherpherd and just after what I can put down on my back seat as protection.

    pooch = dog/pup/woofer etc.
    We have a Rav4 and MKV R32 and our dog, cockerspaniel so not as big, has a harness that clips to the seat belt and she sits on old towls. I have looked at one of those blankets that goes between the seats, good idea but for our small dog not needed.
    Again make sure you have a harness that has a seat belt attachment dont want a 15-20 kg dog in the back of the neck if you brake fast. Another thing is that most states are making it law that the dog is restrained either by a seat belt or if in the boot area a cargo barrier.

    i bought a car seat protector blanket (with loops for headrests) from The Reject Shop for about $15. Also a harness/seatbelt thing for about $8 (same place - brillaint for cheap pet gear.)

    Depending on who is in the car he either sits on the back seat or in the passenger front. He has always been an excellant car companion, so just sits/lies there & doesn't jump about.

    Sometimes we put the split rear seat down & he has his back half in the cargo area & front half in the rear seat area.

    This is a 21kg compact sized Standard poodle puppy, so not huge but not small either.

    This is him 12 months back when he was 6 months old & about 10kg

    My Riley - always in the back with a harness

    The one time my now ex-GF had him in the front with no seatbelt, he ended up putting his head through the windscreen after sudden stop. Lucky he's got a hard head!
