    Dieselgate spreads to other manufacturers

Now the guardian has cottoned on to the truth.

    [sorry screwed up link before]

Gosh these journos are a bit slow when it comes to doing research. The ICCT white paper paper was published prior to VW trouble and they still haven't found it. And the earlier ICCT study was 12 months ago. Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

I think The Guardian link is

Four more carmakers join diesel emissions row | Environment | The Guardian

The article suggests that in real world driving the cars in question emit more exhaust pipe nasties than while undergoing a controlled test in the lab. This is not a revelation at all - I think any car (petrol or diesel) would...

What sets VW apart is the engine management system seems to have two distinct profiles - one for road and one for the lab - with the lab profile set specifically so the car would 'pass'...

Who wants to wager that other manufacturers do this too?

I heard Samsung is being investigated for incorrectly staying power consumption figures for their TVs.

I reckon every industry will now be scrutinised. I mean, why stop with cars?

Apparently, diesel is problematic and petrol is nowhere near as bad.

The differences between lab test and real world should never be that much; 2-20 times the NOx, imagine if that was the difference in your fuel consumption figures!
My Golf 118TSI could do it's stated 6.5L/100km without too much hassle, but my Polo 81TSI doesn't get close to the stated 4.9L/100km.
