Looks like VW Australia has setup a website for owners to check if their vehicles are affected by the emissions issue. You just need to enter the VIN of your car to check.

Well, be glad that I've moved some threads with the same topic to the general section. The intension was to close it but, then some people would object that.

Though, I can close it, if more people want that.

I believe that the later are the right reasons why people buy their VW.
Perhaps not California emission standards, but some people may have bought a small diesel car because they thought they were doing the right thing by the environment, and this weighed more heavily in their consideration than things like handling, performance and price. My wife thinks all cars drive pretty much the same, which by and large is true if you line up equivalent modern cars in front of the average car owner, so she judges them on their 'green' credentials (like fuel economy and emissions), which is important to her.

VW CEO of USA's arm has been grilled by the senate. Interestingly both political parties suggested to the CEO that VW start buying back the cars.

It relates to engine placement. Any EA189 that is horizontially orientated they didn't do the 'adblue' post processing as it is assumed there wasn't enough space/cost prohibitive

The same engine placed longitudinally is fine as they did install the adblue post processing system.

Hence why the Multivan is fine, and the Golf isn't.

Much like the many performance chips available, I am sure you will be able to rechip it even if VW did something you didn't like.

Absolutely, however this then brings into question ADR compliance and if that ECU modified vehicle is in an accident then the insurance company has an 'out'...
