    Delivery Times - You are not alone

    In SMH's Drive section there was a story about delivery times pointing out that there were issues with delivery times in Australia.

    Both brokers, for example, say the waiting time for a Volkswagen Polo GTI is between 14 and 18 months, while Volkswagen says it is no longer than six months "depending on the model and specific dealer".

    The brokers say Toyota Kluger Grandes are taking anywhere between four and eight months to arrive, while a Toyota spokesman says there is stock in the dealerships but that some specifications "might take a bit longer than normal".

    A Kla Sportage Platinum diesel, according to the brokers, is taking between four and six months; a Kla spokesman says while it used to be more than six months, the waiting time is now down to six to eight weeks "depending, of course, on whether there are any special build orders".
    Interesting the differences between the "company line" and reality. Also that the problems are not only limited to a single brand.

    It's the old supply and demand story. My company is going through this issue also. We developed a new product at great risk and cost. To pull this of we needed to launch and promote it to gather interest and a want for the product. We made what we thought was a bold sales projection that was still well within our production capacity with room for future growth. Problem is that within months we out stripped our capacity and our plan to fit new machinery is 12-18 months away from delivery. Basically we can't increase capacity overnight so delivery dates push further out.

    I don't know if the alternative is better.

    In Singapore you usually have cars in stock (except for 1.4 based backorder cars like the Polo GTI and the Tourans)

    The catch is: you can't spec your car. All the cars are standardized in trim. But they are quite highly spec-ed.

    All the current Golf GTIs come standard with;
    Bixenons, LED DRL, LED tail lights
    Vienna leather
    Sunroof
    ACC
    Push Start and keyless entry
    RNS510
    18" Detroits
    DSG

    You only get to choose color.

    If you want Dynaudio or manual or remove the sunroof, I think the sales people usually aren't so keen to assist so you may have to go for grey imports from the UK. But then you are back to the usual lead-times.

    Frankly, if the local importer can standardize the base trim and get a good discount pricing on the options, it may not be a bad thing. I still can't imagine why DCC and Bixenons aren't standard.

    hi just spoke to my dealer who says my polo gti wont be here when stated in feb 2012. vw aust just told him no polo gti will be delivered in aust in first quarter of year .prob late second quarter. when pressed when exactly it would arrive the answer is much the same as how long is a piece of string . about time we stood up im cancelling my order and buying something else .

    Audi A1 is basically the same car.

    I would not be waiting 4-6 months for a Kia. I would probably forget I ordered it after 4days. It would turn up and I would realise I didn't really want it in the first place.

    WHYYYYYY can't we have that here? I'd have bought a GTI no questions if that was the standard spec. A GTI like that in Australia could cost close to $60,000!

    My brother went to order a new Touareg and he was told that he'd have to wait until February to get one exactly how he wants it, or he can have one without the sun roof but with the driver's assistance package right now.
