must be different with diesels, as the quotes i was getting put volkspower ahead of burwin.

that being said, i got my car from burwin, and i've spoken to their service department a fair bit. they're a seemingly honest, good bunch of guys.

you dont get dealer of the year however many years in a row for nothing....

    Hi Guys,

I agree with Scott at VW STh Yarra in Abbotsford always helpful and they have repaired a windscreen replacement on my Tig with Geniune glass rather than the O'Brien plain label stuff.

Just wondering if anyone can assist with servicing a Golf 5 2.0 FSI @ 60,000kms. Had the following quotes for work to be performed:
VW Burwin FTG - Service $815, Timing belt $865 but don't automatically change waterpump
VW STH Yarra Abbotsford Service $880 Timing belt and Tensioner $625 but don't automatically change waterpump ($230)
VW Sth Yarra Service $950 Timing Belt + Water pump $950
VW Camberwell Service $913 Timing Belt + W/Pump $878 chk Tensioner

Isn't it amazing that VW Sth Yarra & Abbotsford quoted such differing prices and work, have not approached Scott as to why?
Golf has extended warranty so Water pump should be covered if it fails, but I'd hate it to leak when on a trip away so might just get it done and swap the car in 12-18mths before ext warranty expires.

Anyone suggest who gives the best service. Personally I find the Bayford experience with alternative (Shell Helix) lubricants worrying as I'd prefer the Castrol/VW preferred types. Heard good and bad about all of them. Car was bought and serviced from Camberwell whereas my Tig came from VW Sth Yarra. Even though the timing belt not due until August, I will get it swapped at the service to avoid two trips, also get it all done at the same place in case any thing fails as a result.

No doubt they'll say the brakes need doing and the bill will go over $2k, anyone car to pass comment on their experience Golf V /Dealer work.

Essedon Volkswagen I beleive have a good service record.
Burwin's are great, they are more than happy to listen to me and my old man harp on about stuff and always service Mum's GL.
    Campberwell not so good though...

Thanks Water Boy. Burwin is where we got a good deal on ext warranty and the old salesman from Camb now works there and of course bags the old job.
What sort of issues did you know of at Camberwell apart from the usual incompetent techs? Personally I find they get too much business coming there way only cause they're there, rather than them earning customers respect. It will be interesting to see where we get the best deal on our 3rd VW purchase, betcha Camberwell won't be the winner, they just don't cut the mustard. A family associate ordered a R32 Golf and was never told it was ready to Predeliver/collect, mmmh? Seen new cars in the showrooms with incorrectly fitted accessories, tow bars & roof racks. Mind you these are put on by the Bayford mob north of Melb.

The previous owner of my POG missed the 15k, and did both 15k and 30K together at Sth Yarra, and got charge almost $1K, didn't think it would cost that much, as if they are doing the 15k and 30k one individually (changing oil twice, and checking things twice??).

I'm deciding if i should go to Volkspower or Burwin.....i had my APR chip and dogbone done at Volkspower, and the guys there were great, so i'm really considering them. You guys know how much it would cost for 45K service normally?

hey there ef9, how are ya?

i go to volkspower for all my services. i have a polo too [albiet a diesel].

from memory, the 45k is only a minor service [30k and 60k are intermediates and cost $600+ for the polo diesel]. if i recall correctly, i was quoted somewhere in the ballpark of ~$330 or so for the 45k. but there were a couple of niggles with the car, so i asked them to do an intermediate on it.

so yeah. minor service for a polo at volkspower = roughly $330 [had 2 other minor services done there].

    cheers,

    scotty
