Yeah, just report it to the cops and they'll get that address for you. They are legally obliged to give you their details, so the fact they're refusing will give the coppers some motivation to call them and ask on your behalf

That's a bit of b/s isn't it! What is with people these days trying to avoid things that they are at fault with?

A similar thing happened to me recently - I got their number, name, rego, car make/model etc but not their home address. My insurer happily got the other party's address by sending some "request of xxxxx" letter (possibly to VicRoads). To be honest that's the last I heard about it and I've had my car back for weeks.

    Quick update for anyone interested

Went to the local police station Monday morning and gave a formal statement/incident report. Police said leave it with them.

As if by magic I got a text from the other driver this morning giving full contact details.

Insurance company is now happy and no excess for us, we can now get our car repaired and live happily ever after.

Nice work mate! It annoys me so much when people try and snake their way out of their responsibility for damage they have caused to someone elses property.

I had someone back into my audi and put a hole through my bumper while it was parked. The dude did leave his mobile number, which was great, but he refused to give me further details needed for insurance and basically left me with no choice but to follow his demands to have the car repaired without involving insurance. Which meant i ended up with a bogged and painted front bar rather than a brand new one ...

I would've been reporting that to the police too!
