Thumbs up Crazy VW Dealership prices!

After having some intermittent brake light failure and some research i found out this is common on the earlier mk4's rang the dealership for a quote on a Brake light switch. And when the bloke said to me $80 i almost fell off my chair! now i thought this cannot be right. it's a dam switch ffs! decided to ask my father and he pointed me to Imparts French's forest. rang up gave the VIN and boom $8.65 + $10 Postage. Happy days! Anyone had a similar experience where some asking around has saved you quite a bit? as a 17yo with low income that's awesome.

Highly recommend Imparts, know their stuff & at really good prices.

Every dealer will ask crazy prices. Try replacing the windscreen wipers on a BMW 323 for less than $500 - all it needed was new rubbers but they fitted genuine wipers, rubbers and arms. Happened to a mate of mine and he told them to put the old ones back and he got new wiper blades from Supercheap for $15 instead.

Wreckers are normally the cheapest if it doesn't have to be new.

    Cheers

Depending on what you need sometimes it's cheaper to buy a wreck from the auctions, take what you need and sell the rest back through the auctions, to a european wrecker (Sydney Wide European, ASV or Parramatta Prestige) or part it out on eBay.

Of course there's no guarantees when you buy from auction and you need to have somewhere to store it in the interim.

I just bought a throttle body for 1.8T. VW spares quoted me $930 plus 3 weeks lead time for shipping from Germany. So i did some googling and found the correct new and authentic part from a German seller on eBay for $250 shipped. It is yet to arrive but I bet it won't take three weeks
