OMG. I just about fell off my ball

I don't know what figures your looking at but

    R36

    225KW - 300hp
    350 Nm (259 lb-ft)
    172.03 hp/tonne

    0-100 5.8 seconds
    1/4 mile 14.42 seconds

    Clubsport

    317 kw 425 bhp
    550 Nm (407 lb-ft)
    232.93 hp/tonne

    0-100 4.6 seconds
    1/4 mile 13.3@108 seconds

Now I'm no mathematician, but I reckon I could work out that the HSV would thump it every which way incl. loose

According to the R36 figures even a bog stock VP Clubsport ran a 14.4!!!

This thread is getting better & better.

I'll give credit where credit is due & its good to see that at least your using your R36 Rocket in anger.

I'm sure there are plenty of people that would reckon a R36 is too good for track use

    Passat is the new polo.

Ie. I wanted an RS4 but could only afford this like the polo fan boys wanted a Golf GTI but could only affoird that. Seriously Rocket - how could a R36 be quicker around the track. If it were pissing rain, I could potentially fathom it for a moment but in the dry - if going off your own "proven and tested" experience of the HSV vc the R I would suggest your driving skill has drastically improved and not the car.

And I say that from experience also so it must be true.

My clubby didn't have 317kw or 550nM. Re-read what I said and then get a clue.

As for "getting my back up", I'm not. If I didn't think the R36 was a better car, I would have kept the HSV Clubsport R8.

And I wasn't comparing my times in both cars. I was comparing other drivers in their HSVs to my times. Granted they were **** drivers, but I was still beating them in the R36 and they were SERIOUSLY upset about it! LoL

As for quarter mile, well I never drive my car a quarter mile at a time. Drag racing is the most pointless, boring form of motorsport in my opinion. I mean I love the stats the fastest guys in the world have (incl. the stats of their cars and the engineering that goes into them) but it's so boring. I'm a race track guy - always will be.

I'll bottom line it from MY point of view, I get FAR MORE pleasure out of the R36 than any car I've owned before. And that's all I care about.

As for the RS4 comment, couldn't afford it? LOL!!! I test drove one, as well as an M3 and a C63. Yeah they're all quicker more powerful cars but are they $80,000 better value for money? NOPE! And if I had to pick one of those three other options I was looking at, it would be the C63. I came pretty close to buying it but it really wasn't $80,000 better value for money than the R36.

And I say good on ya for it, but the outlandish statements above we a complete dribble of crap. I love the R36, I think it's awesome you track it but dont reduce yourself to pissing up the wall like that. If your keen on trackdays, have you ever checked out trackchat.com.au. Thyere a good bunch of guys who regularly meet up for the odd track day. I'd be keen to see some results for the R vs the SS's and the likes..

    Sorry

VE LS2 Clubby still had 307kw & still had 550Nm

That's only a tad more than the R36. (more like a whole bunch)

Got to say this has been one of the best running threads & conversations going for ages & even without getting into personal attacks or improper language, getting out of hand etc.

Hats off to everyone & take a bow.

    Good stuff VWW

Perhaps the lack of both power and torque, with the addition of AWD does better suit your capabilities as I mentioned earlier.

Nothing wrong with my driving capabilities mate. There were some with the guys in the HSV club but I can't help that. I've done a fair bit of racing and a LOT of track days. I'd happily put my skills to the test around any track if you like. Hey I could arrange a Wakefield day for VWW. You keen?

As for comparing the R36 to the RS4, M3 and C63, I can compare it and you know why? Because the R36 doesn't cost $150,000 to drive it off the showroom floor. So while I am sure I would have loved owning the C63 and I came very close to owning it (it's the best of the other three), I decided the R36 is better VALUE FOR MONEY. I.e. less than half the price but not half the performance. None of the other three options are worth $80,000 more. The R36 is the perfect compromise.

You're entitled to think what you like of course, but that doesn't mean you're right. It's just your opinion. Like I said, bottom line is I'm happy.
