"Do they realy drift at over 100kph?" "I just put in 4:11s but i dunno what they are" "How wide are your wheels?.....oh 205s"
Your talking to the wrong bunch of dunnydore drivers I think Spyda.

The ones I know crap all over my knowledge base & are extremely cluey characters.

    Yeah right.

One of the most popular cars to ride on tow trucks!!

They fit these badges cause from VT commodores series 2 onwards, they have chevrolet V8's fitted.

I don't really rate it either & get more of a laugh out of the people with the V6 versions & chev badges!

Maybe the Crafter boys can fit Mercedes badges to be upper class along with the GTI boys to fit Audi badges! hahahahaha

Maybe move this to general chat?

Nothing to do with Passats other than a mention of how much tow truck time they get!
Is your comment on tow truck time is based on actual data? A sample size of one (perhaps your experience) is not statistically valid. I have owned both cars (V6 Passat, Commodore Exec, S and SV6) and in my opionion (sample size of 1) they ARE better - better build, reliability and performance and a big plus, they are not as common as you know what.

Falcons, which i have had a couple of are just as bad. Putting a chev badge doesnt make them any better or worse.

    To each their own.

Its alright. I'll retract my comment about tow truck time.

I have no hard evidence or stats to back up that claim.

But what would I know. I only work on them for a living & see them day in & day out. So maybe I'll start a flow chart for you!

Oh, I also work along side people who have come from Holden & Ford backgrounds too.
You know what? They all say the same thing when they started with VW.
They have never seen one make of car ie "VW" with sooo many problems over & over again!

I get a chuckle out of that every time I think of it.

Its funny. that people always bag out Aussie made products. What ever happened to "buy Aussie & keep people in Job's"

Even my own German branded car was made by Aussies!!! In fact, out of all my cars, only two are build OS & I have 4 German branded cars!

I'd like to see how todays current VW's are in 34 years, cause even after 5 years they are already junk!

I am all for Aussie made products - i share your beleif that we need to support Aussie jobs BUT only when in the buyers mind the product is at least equall. Dont know about you, but if i am spending $60/$70k on a car and i want to support Australian workers then the product in my view needs to be at least comparible.

Re how a VW will be in 34 years, well i own my cars 4 years max - i look after them better than most and then buy another one. BTW a 34 year old commodore wont be worth much either.

Hey I worked for BMW for nearly 10 years. Loved them. Awesome cars

I work on VW's. I love VW's. Grew up with them from the time I can remember.

The Holden boys loved Holden & the Ford boys loved Ford. Never here really bad things about them. They only moved over to VW cause they thought it was an upgrade to a better product only to be let down.

Just hate reading about people who reckon there "so called" prestigious car is that much better than our own product. They aren't. They are just taxi's & run of the mill mass production cars in their own country just like ours are.

Its funny. I watched a german video about a bloke who tested a VE Clubsport up against a BMW M5 V10. He said "Bang for buck. The Clubby eats it & overall its not a bad car either, I thought it would be terrible due to the cost, but was blown away by how it drives & handles. The only down side is the sloppy auto".

Don't see any VW's being tested against cars like that!

Oh. Can't be all that bad when a "crappy" Holden has better stopping power than a Lamborgini! Fact!

Commodore aren't that old just yet, but I beg to differ when they are.

Whats a mint HDT VC worth? approx $40-50k

Whats a mint top of the line VW worth around the same era? $5k tops

    Lets make it more current.

    VR6 New approx $70k Used $6-8K

VS GTS New approx $70k Used $20K

Not saying all VW's are worthless, only the watercooled version! haha

The early Beetles & Kombis are worth crazy dollars.

Just though of something to lighten things up

I've never seen a Ford capri stuffed full of the generals finest "chev" with a Chev bowtie on it! Or any other ford fitted with a chev engine & chev badge from early 30's/40's fords right up 70's.
Seen plenty of chev powered Fords though.

Seen plenty of the old Holdens with the chev badge of course like HT,K,G,Q,J,X,Z, WB's plenty of torana's etc fitted with the mouse & rat engines.

But the Dunnydore drivers you hang out with have a clue... The Commodore and Falcon Ute's are the standard AJ banger of choice, and outside my workshop, the only mod the standard AJ knows about is a Chev badge and the biggest, heaviest set of chrome wheels he can find (come to Townsville, or go to Darwin to see what I mean). I went to VW to stand away from that crowd.
Mind you, one of the boys in our workshop here has a VX SS 6.0L twin turbo punching out 620KW dyno confirmed...

Holden should ship a top-of -the -line performance VE (GTS or whatever) to the Nurburgring, see how she rates against similar stuff. Its a demanding piece of road, the VE may do well. Just leave off the Chev badge.
