I was a GM technician for 14 years both in Australia and Canada and am now a VW technician. The build quality of VW is something GM will never come close to matching.

On any car forum like this one you're always going to hear about the people who have problems because the people with problems are coming here to see if anyone else is in the same boat. It's very rare for someone to just start a new thread saying that their car is running perfectly and has never had a problem because they're not asking for help and they're not giving much information to other users.

I could rattle off several problems with GM vehicles. I did start writing a list but it got way too long for anyone to bother reading.

As for the Commodores with the Chev badges I'll never understand it. Just because it has a Chevrolet designed engine in it doesn't make it a Chev. You never saw people with the 3.8L V6 with Buick badges on their cars. Besides that, Chevrolet is the poverty brand for GM. Every other GM brand is considered higher. It's why Holdens were badged as Pontiacs (GTO and G because even Commodores are better than Chevrolets. Don't get me wrong, Pontiacs were crap too before they were dropped by GM.

Agree with Preeny on this one! PLUS WTF does it have to do with Passats?

    Anyhow...

VT - VZ was based on the Opel Omega...

So I'd understand Opel badges on them but not Chevrolet bow ties.

The VE is 100% designed, engineered and built in Australia. So the rest of the world should be rebadging their Chevrolet/Buick/Pontiacs (the other GM brands VE is sold under) with Holden badges. NOT the other way around.

Although Holden shot themselves in the foot. "Oh no, the Pontiac export program has been scrapped but we have all the Pontiac spare parts, what do we do? Oh, lets put them on the Australia product and call it a 'Special Edition'..."

I have nothing against the VE though. I owned three of them! At least they have Bluetooth as standard! lol But my R36 sh*ts on all of them. Although I do miss the LS2 powered manual Clubsport R8 sometimes...

i do think putting the chevvy badges on the commy is a bit strange... but still.

There is a reason the commonwhore is so common, a cheap car which really isnt all that abd at all, the main thing whcih turns me from them is how common they are... There has to be a reason so many people drive them.

Yeah, I think I'd prefer a Commodore over just about anything else GM makes at the moment. Even though the VE has really been hit hard by an ugly stick (purely an exterior aesthetic opinion, never actually driven one). Ford, on the other hand, seem to be doing a great job with their European-import small cars.

And it's no coincidence that "Chev" is only one letter away from "chav"

i saw a falcon ute with a sticker on the back window that said "a ford, with a ford badge" and "a bowtie is what you put on when you want people to think you're better than you are!"

I had a chuckle, but I dont really care.
I also don't want to defend such mediocrity in engineering (eg: Holden) as passionately as Tim, but he's got a point in the sense that lots of passats (and A6's of the same age) seem to have many issues.

But meh, whatever. I wish people would stop putting racist and narrowminded "pro Australia" yobbo stickers on their windows. If I had kids I wouldn't want them to have to read that 5h!t.

F--k off we're full??? Yeah, of yobbo wankers!

Thats a whole nutha can o worms though!!!

    I agree.
Whats the point, if you have ever had a chat with a group of these type of dunnydore drivers in about 20sec is clear they dunno whats going on. "Whats a coilover?" "Whats a stance?" "Do they realy drift at over 100kph?" "I just put in 4:11s but i dunno what they are" "How wide are your wheels?.....oh 205s"
