In car camera, anyone got one.

    Hi Team.

    Or dash cam

Any one recommend an in car camera, the ones that hook onto the back of the rear view mirror.
Seems to be a heap on ebay but look to bulky, prefer one that's not noticeable.
Can you set them up to continue monitoring after you leave the car.

    Chat soon.

There's an iPhone app that uses the accelerometer, GPS and camera to record video. You just need to mount it facing forwards.

Saw it on Fifth Gear the other day.

I have a 400g and heartily recommend it It is accurate has HD resolution and gives speed date and time and location.

The software it comes with will also plot your recent trips on maps included.

Can read number plates whilst on the move.

Can email a video of it in action

Using a Power magic module (an extra) it will go into parking mode for a selected time and record any bumps above a selectable level.
Mine cost about $350 and they are a lot cheaper now.

I also have a 350g ( no Satnav) in the rear window. Good for tailgaters, makes the plates easy to read

The best thing about both is that they are small and able to be mounted in front of the mirror and you dont see them from your seat.

I used a spare fuse to power it all from and ran the wiring where you cant see it except for a small length in front of the mirror.

Fuse in R/H end of dash in the Passat

I have mine mounted so that the lens is dead centre down the line of the bonnet

Would seriously recommend you buy of these guys I have bought 4 off them and they are excellent sellers

And this for the Power magic module

BlackVue Power Magic Car Black-Box Battery Parking Mode for DR400G DR350 DR300G | eBay

It has two connections One to switched power and one for permanent power which allows parking mode for up to about 3 hours.

Always remember though that you usually park nose in so that it cant see much. Thats why I have one in the rear window or else you have to back into the park for front camera to see what hits you LOL

I bought the same unit DR400 for the Golf and a 350 for the Ute both are working well , They can save you when a cop pulls you over and claims you were speeding or ran a red light the proof will be on your side as time and date and position is all recorded.Or if your involved in an accident it will be your witness ,

Do you also delete the video that proves you WERE speeding LOL You can copy the contents of the RECORD folder to a folder on your computer and edit it and remove the naughty ones.

I saved all the clips of my recent trip to the USA makes interesting viewing at times

The 350 wont prove anything as it only has date and time as it doesnt have a GPS so cant show speed or position.

My brother was booked recently for going through a red light he was adamant it was green but the cop still booked him ,if he had of had a in car camera he could of proved he didn't ,as long as you get the cop to walk to the front of your vehicle and show them the camera and tell them you will see them in court. make sure its on .

You get a different perception from your eyes to the camera and also the GPS ones have a slight lag .

I have a video I kept when I thought I was going to get a speed camera ticket Thought I had slowed down in time but hadnt according to the camera but when I cruised up behind a truck at the lights it said i was doing 18kph when I had actually stopped. Only for a second or two but enough to cast doubt on an argument. Wasnt a speed camera luckily.
