i'm new to the forum and am not sure weather this has been covered or not, tried searching but couldnt find anything.

okay so here's my problem, i'm currently looking for my new car, however i'm still on p plate and living in vic, so am restricted to driving turbo and supercharged cars etc.
At first i really wanted to buy the 02 civic type r ep3, and was very close to buying, as it has quite a lot of performance for a NA car. however my dad stopped me cause it was not fuel efficient enough and being an import, it would cost a lot to keep.
He also wont get me any other car that i want, unless its a slow corolla or a Volkswagen.
so we compromised and decided that i will get the golf gti.

what my question is. will the golf gti attract much police attention? and if i debadged it, could i get away with driving it? i would even consider sticking a "tdi" badge on it
also is there any other car that is just as fun but p plate legal?
and i am not into the diesel powered cars...
oh and i am a sensible driver. i don't speed or hoon around.
