Is your plan to hide it in your garage while you paint it a different colour and change the numberplates?
Hi guys.
Instead of trawling through gov websites thought i would ask here first!.
So if I buy a cheap banger in QLD with no roadworthy or rego what do I need to do.??
Im looking for info from people that have actually done this themselves.
1. Pay the guy as little cash as possible!
2. Need a permit to get it home? Can i drive it home?
2.5. Change of ownership?
3. Credit / stolen / written off checks?
4. Fix up a home to make roadworthy.
5. Take to roadworthy station and passes then get rego?
Thanks guys

Keep it off the road while fixing it and then RWC to sell on or keep as a runabout

We sold one a while ago Deregistered it and sold it "as is" Guy picked it up on a car trailer and Ive never seen or heard about it since.
Was used as a daily drive up till then but needed a few things for roadworthy which made it uneconomical.
Had 2 almost new tyres and a reasonably new radiator. Got $400 for it 89 Camry.
If I remember correctly didnt have to do a change of ownership Just gave him a written receipt..

When I bought my car I just got a written receipt took it home on a trailer and drove it to get roady. I heard you can get a permit to drive it home but I didnt bother
You can get permits to drive home, usually 3-21 days and cover you for insurance etc.
You can change the ownership details to your name aslong as you have somesort of receipt/ previous owners signature, if unregistered you can just change it into your name without anything needed, to register it obviously you will need RWC.
You should ask the owner for their last registration certificate! This is very important.
Once the RWC has been performed (there are guys that will come out and do that) You take the copies of the RWC and the old rego cert along with your driver licence. Pay the rego fee over the counter and they will issue the plates. You can then go home, attach them and drive. I would recommend the QLD transport at Rosalie. In specific cases the QLD transport office will request you take the car to them for 'verification', this is a terrible scenario and has never happened to me. If your buying a car that was recently registered and simply needs work for next rwc this shouldn't be an issue.
I always just have unregistered cars towed, you can get permits and prepay CTP etc etc. But for convenience and safety I tend to prefer a tow.
Oh and you can still do a REVS check off the VIN number, probably not an awful idea.
Thanks guys. Going to QLD transport today just to double check everything...
