Buying a car with no rego in NSW and driving to VIC

Sorry for the long title, but I have a guy buying a car from me in NSW (she's in good condition too btw) from ebay and flying up from VIC to pay for it and drive away back to VIC.

Problem is, the car is over 3 months out of rego, meaning that obviously to get its pink slip it will need a blue slip.

To get a Unregistered Vehicle Permit (UVP) for NSW there needs to be a pink slip. And of course in this case to get it we'll need a blue slip.

Its easier to get a UVP for VIC i understand.

Firstly, can anyone confirm if my understanding of all this is right?
Secondly, can anyone suggest a better way of doing things as I think there is a better way but can't manage to think of it?

Yup the car needs a pink slip if you need an unrego permit to goto vic.

However, VIC and QLD only need the money and to fax the permit to someone.

You could say that you are buying an unregisted car in QLD and driving it to VIC and thus, you would need no pink slip.

Its still legal as if you get pulled over between Syd and Melb, you are half way by the most direct route

Such a wealth of knowledge. thanks mate.

I did read, however, that QLD Transport need to have the plates surrendered to them before they can issue a permit? would it be better to surrender the plates now then? or just say they were destroyed?

Pink or Green slip? I thought it only needed a green slip.

the Green slip is your CTP insurance, and when purchasing a UVP most of the fee is your insurance cover for the duration of the UVP.

I always thought you needed a Blue slip to get a Pink slip if your car has gone 3 months over its rego renewal. Now i am being told that the blue slip essentially includes the pink slip for the first year, and thereafter you can use the pink slip as normal.

Makes me realise we have a slightly more Draconian rego system here in NSW than other states.

I am trying to find out now if my local mechanic will issue me a pink slip in this circumstance.
