On Tuesday I left from Sydney to drive up to Brisbane with my cousin, mum and her friend. After two painful days of driving, we finally made it two or three hours early prior to the Pearl Jam concert the two ladies wanted to attend. As my cousin and I refused to go, they decided to leave us in the CBD until they were done, to roam and do whatever.
I decided to log onto Boostcruising (another forum, sacrilege right?!) as I knew the Queensland cruising scene is quite big, and checked if there was anybody organising something for that evening. Pleasant surprise then, when our very own maca was the one who posted what I was after!
I hadn't really talked to him before, apart from exchanging a few "nice car" posts, but following a brief conversation via PM, he kindly offered to take us out onto the cruise with him as he was showing his cousin from Italy around anyway. We drove up to Maccas, praising his wittle diesel box on the wayI had imagined him to be quiet, perhaps sussing us out as we weren't from around here, but then I remembered that this was a Vdub driver - two minutes in the car with him and my thoughts were erased..
His cousin was a funny bloke too, albeit mostly speaking Italian. It was hilarious watching Alex play translator, occasionally hearing a word (mostly swearing tbh haha) we recognised and piecing the sentences together. Who knew that walking into an Asian internet cafe and paying 5 bucks for an hour would lead to us having such a good time! He took great care of us, showing us around Mt Nebo and not once acting like an irresponsible twat. By the end of the night, my mum had agreed with me that he was indeed a good guy, and my cousin himself continually praised the way he took us in as if we had been buddies for years.
That's the power of VW ownership for you, and why I love this scene more than any other - regardless of whether it means having to drag an out-of-town 16 year old and his very ethnic looking cousin with you! Mad props to ya champ, and when you come down for those Nationals in Sydney or Canberra you were telling me about, I owe you big![]()
