Yes, 2 weeks for the small parcel from Melbourne to South Australia and then it was delivered to wrong address to, lucky me the man brought it to me the same day.

I agree, the stuff from overseas arrives much sooner.

I bought an item from SA it ended up in WA then Vic before being delivered to QLD all up 17 days
The boss of Australia post has turned a good postal service into a third world postal service and he is paid over 2 million a year

I run a commercial furniture business with about $ 5 million in turnover. A considerable amount of our business is on-line. We ship every business day to all states. Have run the business the last 15 years.

Due to many past instances of shocking service similar to those listed above, we now NEVER use Australia Post to deliver any goods at all, and while I run the place, we never will.

Unfortunately commercial couriers such as TNT, Toll or Allied, are not generally available to private customers so if you have to use Aus Post absolutely ensure package is very well labelled, you have return address, phone numbers, & you get tracking & insurance.

A lot of the contractors Aus Post uses these days are very lazy and simply do not deliver, they will leave a card in a letter box rather than go up a driveway or enter an industrial estate.

Well most furniture wouldnt go through the slot in the post box would it ROFL.

I use express post constantly. If it says delivered, it will have been to somewhere.

I have had the odd ECU disappear for an hour and on investigation turn up stashed in a flowerpot by the front door.

A signature isn't required for express post. So if you need that peace of mind it's extra.

I'd be looking to speak to the driver as they don't knock on doors much in my experience.

The two regular posties that do my area are pretty good and the regular parcel post contractor (who are a husband and wife team) have been excellent. However, when the regular parcel post contractor is on leave, then it all goes up the creek. I have had an international shipment that I was waiting on just dumped at the AusPost distribution centre with no card. Luckily it had full tracking details and it showed that they had "carded" it on the wednesday, I went up to the distribution centre on the friday afternoon and they could not find it. I rang the AusPost call centre on the monday who were able to verify that it was at the distribution centre and when I went back up there on monday afternoon, I got the regular lady there who had a clue of what she was doing, she apologised that the casual delivery contractor they had last week was not very good (sounds like he had left a trail of undelivered parcels and chaos behind him).

One of my mates at work lives on a property outside of town and has dramas regularly. One parcel post contractor destroyed both a parcel and his letter box when he tried to shove the parcel through the slot and when it did not fit ripped the lid off the letter box because it was locked. As my mate's property is a good 15 mins out of town, the contractor would have had to drive all the way back to town to drop it off at the post office for collection if he had carded it . . .

I think another thing to consider is many post offices are now franchises.

Our local community mail centre is open for 1 hour in the morning. When you work it makes thing hard to pick up parcels. I used to get parcels delivered to work, but work clamped down because rather than deliver it Australia Post would divert it to the company PO box, meaning the office girl then had to go and get the parcel.

I tried their parcel delivery to a local post office/ general store that is open when I'm coming home. But the old couple running it as a franchise didn't understand parcel deliveries so would send stuff back as unknown recipient. Now I see they are going to offer parcel delivery to a supermarket. What could possibly go wrong?...
