Police expect to breath test more than 100,000 motorists during Operation Safe Return, the state’s Australia Day road safety campaign.

Operation Safe Return will commence at 00.01 hrs today Saturday (22 January 2011) and conclude at 23.59 hrs on Wednesday (26 January 2011).

Police have kicked off operation Safe Return in NSW, targeting drink-driving and other road offences over the Australia Day holiday period.

Double demerit points apply from Saturday to 11.59pm (AEDT) on Wednesday for all road infringements including speeding and failing to wear a seatbelt.

So who do you beleive , AND before it begins.. yes I know.. DONT SPEED AND ALWAYS WEAR SEATBELTS!

Thats my understanding too... and you would give the Police Media agency more credit than a news bureau!

so it wasn't double demerits? been searching around but cant find anything..

I got booked and I had 3 points left on my license....
Police told me 2 points but I forgot to ask if it was double demerits!

speed and red light on the same camera got me. 6 points without double demerits.

well I live in QLD - what's a double demerit point? There would be a riot if they tried that up here.
