What that guy said is true. All he is saying is that people forget pretty quickly as they did with the riveted together Hyundais (which are now up there as one of Australia's most popular cars among private buyers).

No, I've never said that VW's response has been OK or is justified...

Just that people do forget (and I used a recall on an early Hyundai as an example)... If VW have any brains they will learn from this and I hope they do as it'll strengthen the brand long term...

I do not belittle others who criticise VW so I don't see myself as a fanboy - check my recent posts in this thread and others...

I can't say I feel any sympathy for the company.

They ultimately brought it on themselves by refusing to acknowledge the problems reported by their customers and refusing to issue a recall like in other countries - that is, until Fairfax started to publicise the situation.

I think their customers deserved better, but I'm not the one running the company.

it seems that if you still like your VW and haven't really had any issues (and say so) you are either a fanboy or an idiot.
Same can be said for the people that haven't had problems and are calling VW owners that have experienced problems selfish. i got plenty of paperbags at home for those suffering panic attacks at the thought of resale value

Save some of those bags for those that have fallen victim to the negative media hype.
