Anyone Interested in Ipad Mini Dash Install DIY MK5/6??

    Hey Guys,

I have just bought myself a new golf gti and I now want to upgrade the sound system.

I really like the RNS510 but for the money they demand and other bits required its a little costly and still doesnt do everything I want.

Now after many hours of research I have found a company in the UK called Custom Car Interiors.
Hey makes a full plug and play unit for both the MK5 and MK6 golfs which is painted in black and has an OEM finish and bolts straight up to the dash.

The Fascia unit comes with an inbuilt lighting cable and unit stays in place via rare earth magnets.

I am speaking with the guy to try organise a group buy discount. These retail for 200 pound but I am hoping to get the unit for 130 to 140 delivered depending on how many may be interested.

Here are a few pics of the unit for the non climatronic version but the company has the climatronic version which most people will probably need:

So you are wondering how do I get the the Ipad mini to play music. After more hours of research the best I have found is a Head unit called the Pioneer MVH-560BT , this unit has everything you need and is half the size of normal single radio din as it does not have a cd player only streams via blue tooth or usb, you will connect the Ipad to the rear USB port and this is how the music will be played.
The headunit has 3 x pairs of RCAs (front, rear & sub out) so will be good for all sound systems and it also has the key feature that I like cal Apple Siri Eyes Free. This will allow you to voice control the Ipad hands free with lots of cool features. Google Siri eyes free to get a better understanding or looki at the youtube link below.
I still have to figure out the best place to put the headunit, either where the ashtray is or the glovebox as its a very small unit and easily hidden.

The headunit can be gotten from America for about $200 Aussie dollars shipped on ebay or if we do a group buy can be gotten a little cheaper and better if you are in Sydney. Reviews on here:

This video is from Custom Car Interiors of a unit they produce for the E46 BMW and shows how Siri Eyes Free also works. Steering wheel controls can be fully functional aswell but for that you will need another interface which I will put a link to below.

Now to use the steering wheel buttons if you have these you will need an interface and radio specific cable (in this case the Pioneer cable for the headunit above) These can be bought in the UK and if interested this can be another group buy. This is the interface needed Connects 2 Car Audio Systems, Car Stereo, Car Radio DAB Stereos, Car interface adapters and accessories > ProductInformation
and the pioneer cable harness: Product Information

The company does not have a website yet but only a facebook page:

There are so many cool features like an IOS App called Dash Command which allows you to plug in an OBD Wireless harness to the port in your car and strem live data from the ECU to the ipad, just look at this link to give you an idea:

So far I have myself and 2 other guys that are interested in this and everything is through paypal too.

Very interesting. I was looking at an Alpine CarPlay head unit last year, but decided to go with the RNS-510 instead; however, I still wonder...

Anyway, recently I found that you can install an app called Ignition on a jailbroken IOS device which provide the CarPlay interface and was wondering how an iPad Mini might be installed to take advantage of that - you seem to have found the perfect solution. Do you know if he can route the Lightning connector to the right hand side of the trim so that the home button is on the correct side for right-hand drive cars?
