Does anyone here have any experience with BMW's? In particular the 99 540i.

Parents bought a 1999 M62 TU 540i and there is a slight 'ticking' noise when hot that we think may be the vanos. The engine is the later M62 TU. My old man and myself are mechanics and have been searching forums relating to this problem, (which are not always useful mind you). There is a lot of information but seems to relate more to the M3 I6's engines. There are reported problems from loose cam gear bolts to solenoids etc. Sometimes resulting in complete engine damage.

Thought I would just check here If anyone in Aus knows or has had any experience with these 4.4L V8 engines and care to share some knowledge
