Agree totally. Except, for some really weird reason, VWs seem to hold their value, whereas Italian and French cars don't. The sillyspeed was stupid, similar to the MB Sprintshift on Sprinter vans.
One of the best FWD cars I ever drove was a friends Alfasud ti in the 80s. The Brera is utterly beautiful. But I don't kid myself. There's a reason I have a zero residual loan and extended warranty on the 118 TSI. My Pug is all mine, worth nothing, and I love it. That's worth more than retained value.
