5K0035730F VW Bluetooth Module = 9W7?

Hi there

Just purchased a 5K0-035-730-F and wanting to confirm what it is capable of. I've been doing a bit of research but am still a little confused at the various models out there (3C0, 7P6, 5K0). Some are referring this unit to be a 9W7?

I currently have a Fiscon Kufatec Plus in my R36 which I'm looking to swap out for this hoping for better integration and options. I'm assuming I'll need a wiring harness and mic which seems easily obtainable from eBay once I confirm what I've got.

That looks to be a 9ZA unit which should be compatible with your car.

The 3 digit prefix denotes the platform (3C0=Passat, 7P6=Toureg, 5K0=Golf6). But usually when the rest of the part number matches, the hardware is actually exactly the same.

I found out the long way that the 9w7 units are not compatible with the R36 steering wheel controls, making them impossible to install and use.

Yes you can get wiring harnesses and mic kits from all over ebay. Doesn't have to specifically be for a 9ZA, 9W7 harness should work fine.

When you mentioned its a 9ZA unit, am I safe to assume its different to a 9W7? Would you know what the main differences are between the 2 if so.

You also mentioned that the 9W7 is not compatable with a R36 steering wheel. Is that for all buttons? Will volume up/down still work?

Yes it is a new module than the 9w7 which has been discontinued.
It uses the same Parrot controller and has all the same functionality, with the addition of wifi hotspot capability (requires an additional antenna) which I've never used.

9w7 will not work with the R36 as you need to configure it with the steering wheel controls in order to pair it with a phone.

There about 20 variants of the 'premium' bt module and multiple software and hardware version of each.
I've had trouble with older 9w7 units and the R36, not any other car.
