I can also confirm this. At the time of ordering, the dealer confirmed that VW had rolled out a 5 year replacement warranty on the DSG gearbox. Naturally, I asked him to put this into writing but said the warranty documentation would be updated to reflect the change.

I was very interested to read this thread. I didn't see it before and started a new thread.
I still have 18 months warranty on my MY11 T5 but want to know where I will stand after the three years are up.
I just spoke to VW Australia customer service. They said they had heard of this extended warranty (not bad for head office), but said they thought it would apply to MY13 vehicles but hadn't had any confirmation yet. They suggested I talk to my dealer which I will be doing in the morning. So it doesn't appear to be a clear policy. VW Aust also said it would be vehicle specific. This intrigues me, it sounds like just because your MY11 T5 is extended it doesn't mean mine will be!!!

I just have to say thanks for everyone involved in this thread.

Today I dropped my '08 R36 in to the dealer for them to take a look at the DSG with the hope that it'll be seen to under the goodwill program that VW has going.

The good news is they are covering the full parts cost and half the labour cost of the mechatronics replacement. The gearbox has been dropping into neutral and has been slipping a little lately, as well as being particularly harsh when accelerating from a standstill and downshifting in S mode.

The interesting thing for me is that the car has done 148,000 kms and has an unknown service history from between 75,000 km and 132,000 km (when I bought it). I bought the car fully expecting to have to do some work on the gearbox at some point, but it was pretty damn cheap so I thought the risk was worth it.

I didn't even have to argue the point with anyone. The dealer confirmed it this afternoon with VW and the mechatronics will be replaced on Wednesday when the parts come in.

I count that as a bit of a win, and it has gone some way to restoring my faith in both the dealer and the brand.

I probably shouldn't post here yet, as they'll probably change their minds, but so far so good.

I'm am honestly surprised that you didn't end up arguing with the dealership. This is not the VW Australia I know in the 2 years that I have gotten into VW's. In the many makes and models that I have owned, VW has been the best to drive but worst in customer service and reliability. It is good to know that maybe there is hope for VWA yet. Better customer service is a good start, but doesn't change the fact that their cars are not as reliable. I hope they start putting more effort in making cars built to last.

So if this is the case, are they going to refund any instances of owners who have already had to cough up to have mechatronics or clutch packs replaced? I ended up with a $3k bill even though I did manage to get VW to fund part of the $6k repair for both to be replaced on the exe's 2009 TSi (details on the shudder thread).
Anyone tried this extended warranty out yet in retrospect?

I just spoke to my local dealer. He received a bulletin the other day stating that only MY13+ cars will receive the warranty extension to 5 years/150,000kms.

Heard similar today

Although they have still been submitting warranty requests for Mk6's older than 3 years and VW have provided 'good will' DSG warranty fixes at no charge.

I have extended warranty so I'm covered either way.
