2010 Golf R, check engine light on

    Hi all,

My son bought a 2010 golf R today, drove it from sydney airport down to wollongong, approx 1hour 30 mins.He mentioned it drove like a dream and he loved it. Was parked at home for about 10 mins then he went out again for a drive of about 20 mins. In that time the check engine light came on. It is running fine, starting with no issues, have checked water but was unable to ccheck oil as motor was still too hot. the car had been driven to him by previous owners from a country town approx 6 hours drive. It has only travelled 65k and was recently serviced according to the previous owners.
He is unable to get it to a service agent until monday.
Was hoping someone could offer some solution to this issue or if someone else has had the same problem. Just trying to find some answers to help my boy out. He was so excited to get the car only to find it seems to have a problem, He messaged the previous owners asking if this was an issue they were having with the car which they said it wasnt and they have never seen the check engine light on.
    Would appreciate any feedback, thanks

    It could literally be anything.

You'll need to get it scanned to find out what is throwing the fault.

The scan may also tell you if the fault has occurred before & whether the PO is telling porkies.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

Yes but if he's cleared all the fault codes prior to selling then you won't be able to tell.

You'll need an OBD scanner to read the fault codes - you can get cheap ones for under $30 off ebay. Or wait until Monday and take it to a workshop who should be able to scan it for you and let you know what the issue is.
