I have seen many high speed crashes since my license was revoked. I have also done a defensive driving course in my own car. I now have have my CAMS license and do race on the track...and that is where I leave it.

I have also had mates that have died in high speed crashes. Every time I'm in a car with a friend and they start doing something silly I tell them to stop as I don't want them to end up like me or even dead for that matter.

I have also recently completed a road trauma awareness course.

I have a mate who survived a year on 1 point in a WRX about 2 years ago. He now has a STI that he tracks regularly and a N/A diesel ute in automatic ...... he drives the ute most of the time ....

He did some mod apparently to the throttle on the WRX to prevent it from being able to go fast and still hardly drove it during the 12 months .....

So my advice would be to look for an auto N/A diesel and go for the 12 months .... by your comments I believe you'll be as commited to keeping that point as my mate was .... (he even had somebody else drive the WRX to the track for him)

It can be done, but you will need to put the VR on blocks (and lock away the key) and spend some money to get a REALLY slow car for the 12 months ....

The thing is guys I did drive without my licence for three months and drove so carefully it wasn't funny... The only thing I got picked up for was obviously driving without a licence... I never sped anywhere.

Shows very clearly that you hadn't (and by the fact you're defending it, still haven't) learned your lesson.

Another 6 months without a licence MAY convince you. If you take 1 point for 12 months and lose it, you'll just be inclined to do something stupid in the following 12 months because you'll be all "It's so unfair!" and will think you're somehow being hard done by.

Not trying to make it personal - but for as long as you keep defending what is clearly an illegal course of action (driving without a licence), you haven't, in my mind, yet owned up to yourself that you're doing the wrong thing. I'd hope you could learn that in the following 6 months without a licence (yes, it's a pain, but its your own fault), and then keep yourself on the straight and narrow after that.

The last thing we want to see is a dead young driver...

I made it 2.5 years through my P-Plates on one single point, thanks to my slow ass car.

I was busted doing 89 in a 60 zone about a month after i got my license (in my dads lease car); one month suspension, 4 demerit points and a ~$300 fine.

Yes I did do the wrong thing by driving with no licence. But the reason I lost my licence in the first place was speeding and I believe I have learnt my lesson as I won't be speeding again.

Basically all I've got from this thread is that if I do get my licence back I should hand it back in because you guys don't believe in my ability to abide by the law...

It's totally up to you regardless of what people say. But if you do want advice ask the people closest to you.

I believe the young bloke asked for an opinion on what he should do about one having one point for a year, not his past driving record. If you have an opinion about the latter, you should shut the fcuk up and keep your opinions to yourselves.

Stu, If it was the good old days, I would have said take a flight up to Darwin and change your license, but it isn't. I have been in your position before (I, however, lost 12 points in 3 years). I took the 1 point for 12 months knowing that I was moving to Darwin in 4 weeks. If I was in your position, I would take the extra 6 months without a license and get your full compliment of points back at the end of it.

I have faith in you keeping these points after that period. However, having that extra buffer is always helpful. Stick it out, ride your pushie, mooch off friends, or maybe even get a ride and learn some driving tips off Gerhard. You could even act as his eyes, because clearly he has his head up his arse...
