I think the MK3 is a clear winner for me. Some nice aggressive lines, still has the same steering feel that seems lost in more modern cars but not as uncomfortable a daily proposition as some of older models.
Other than that itd be a mk1 for me. But only as a weekend car. Nothing more fun to punt about in on the street.
N/A!! You should listen harder next time a VR6 passes you.
Have to say I like the Mk2 overall the most, with its Lancia Delta vibe, but the weazy 4 pots need to be dealt with to make the car special...

My favourite.
I actually prefer 5 doors, makes more sense for what the car is meant to be, otherwise rocco/corado etc are cooler. NZ got a few 4 door Mk4 R32s awesome all-rounder.

That's a damn hard question. Not too long ago I would have said MK4 R32 hands down, just loved the styling, but in many respects that's fading a little for me now, if anything back towards the MK3. (I loved my VR6).
The Mk5's never really did it for me at all where the MK6's do with their more angular lines. The MK7 looks like it's heading down that path too.
If it has to be stock, well that just makes it harder since I want more power!
Without limiting to stock... Mk3 VR6, supercharged.
If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you. | Refer a Friend - AussieBroadband $50 Credit
Really can't comment much on the Golf VII seeing as I haven't driven it yet...
