08 R36 or B6 S4 ??

I am considering one of these but alittle undecided on which is the best way to go.
I know the R36 is a newer vehicle but the heart says S4.
What do you think ??

S4, as long it is a good one with full service history but they can potentially cost you a fortune whe they get older if something goes wrong. I'd still want warranty.

The V6 sounds nice but not very fast and the R36 apparently drinks heaps.

Definitely the S4 if it was me.

The R36 is a great piece of machinery but the tuning potential is restricted unless you have very deep pockets.

The R32 already drank a lot as my avg was never less than 12 even on the highway.

They probably both will depending how you drive but it's not so much of a niggle if you've got the power to justify it.

I'd still like an R36 or A4 Avant in the future, and getting a new R36 may be less trouble than used S4, depends on how much tuning the OP wants to do and how old (km?) the S4 is. I definitely wouldn't get a B5, those are money pits.

Who's talking about the R32? I think you must have read the OP's sig...

I would have an RS4 over the R36 any day, when comparing brand new versions, but only if I could afford to spend nearly DOUBLE the money. Which I can't do when it's defintiely NOT twice as good as an R36. Like I have said elsewhere before, the R36 is FANTASTIC value for money when comparing with the RS4, M3 or C63. No it doesn't go as hard but it's as well appointed (and imo has the best seats out of the lot - LOVE the alcantara) and can be a LOT of fun to drive around a track or on a winding road through the mountains somewhere.

It's always very hard to accurately compare a brand new car to a different used model...

Agree with you 100%, not really a fair comparison. New vs new on the other hand, the R36 is great value.

I just meant the r36 would drink a bit more than R32 but probably not that much in it. The manufacturers quoted economy is always a bit optimistic.
