Widest 16" wheels to fit a Mkv GTI?

Trying to find out which wheels I can use to fit some semi slick drag radials to. I am after some 16" rims which will fit the MK V GTI and the wider the better (steel or alloy, alloy pref.)
Any suggestions or ideas greatly appreciated guys

Any 2piece or 3piece wheel will mean you can go as wide as you want. There are many sportmaxx wheels which have nice 16 inch sizes i think, (16x but i don't know how hard it's gonna be to fnd your size.

What about some mercedes sprinter steel wheels, or T5 /T4 steel wheels, you'd be looking at a 16 minimum anyway...

Yeah if i want to cough up some good money my options are huge but i would rather go the steel option as MT's are not all that cheap.

T5 transporter steel wheels have a pcd of 5x120.

your best bet would be to widen a set of T4 16" steel wheels. they have the correct centrebore and stud pattern as a golf mk5, similar offsets to start with and = minimal screwing around.

the mercedes sprinter vans' 16" will require hubcentric rings.

    hahaha.

they're tricky to find though. also i think there'll be a couple of passats here and there with 16" spare wheels. stock width i'd suppose is any where some space saver skinny 3" ( not very good to run MTs ) and 6.5" for the full sizes.

widening can be done to almost any width, providing you have the time, effort and money to get them done. not too sure on places in melbourne, ask one of the local wheel whores ( dom - WABIT) where this can be done.

it'll cost any where between $100 and $200 per wheel depending on how wide and where.

i personally know ( in sydney ) that 14, 15 and 16" barrels are available in 7,8 and 10" wide. they simply weld the mounting face to the prefabricated wheel barrel.

edit: ps, if the place you go isn't too sure about how to go about it, DONT have them weld you wheels! In the US, they band them - cut the barrel and weld in a strip = much more damage to the crystal structure of the steel. Not many people have the tools or ability to do that on a commercial basis ( or really want to ) here, so ROH 10" barrels are the way to go

Yes i have found that they are pretty hard to come by which makes perfect sense. Cant see many ppl putting 24" rims on T4's!!

A mate works at a wheel shop in Preston so I may go see him and he can do all the hard work for me

Thanks for the info bro, I will see how i go. If anyone is reading this and has some 16's lying around send me a message
