just trying to get my head around the centre bore / offset calcs....
If a WRX spec wheel was to fit my Mk4 Bora 4mo, would the 56mm centre bore (vs 57mm on VW) problem be sidestepped using some 15-20mm spacers? I just figure there would be more options in WRX wheels than VW wheels.
Has anybody actually done similiar?

I've never tried, but thinking about it, it should definitely work after adding spacers, but the width of the spacers must be more than that of the hub sticking out (like in the case of the rear of Mk3's) so that a smaller centrebore wheel can go on without any obstruction. Also, your spacers must not be hub-centric to VW, as that defeats the purpose of adding the spacers in the first place! Adding spacers complicates things though, as your wheels would no doubt stick further out and depending on the width and offset, you might find yourself rubbing tyre against the arches. Also, it'd be a lot safer using adapter-style spacers at widths greater than 20mm (though I think 30mm is the "cut-off" point), which will contribute to more $$$.Quote:

Not 100% sure but im sure you will find alot of WRX rims (aftermarket) will have a larger centre bore so you can simply get Hub centric spacers from any tyre shop.
What you talk of is also possible but could be expensive, wouldnt get them off the shelf i dont think.
You can always have the centre bore machined out alot of wheel/tyre places can arrange it.
I'm looking at doing, sorry, get some adaptor-spacers amde up.
This is to go from a 57.1 centre bore to 70mm (or something) centrebore, and atleast 25 odd mm thick. These kinda things are often best made up to suit the individual specs of the wheels and cars, and I'm pretty sure ones like these aren't readily availiable off the shelf.
Also I'd be using a second set of stubs from the adaptor as well, as 50 odd mm long bolts, just don't quite cut it. and using stubs in teh spacer (from spacer to wheel) also makes it legal!

Hey guys and gals (yes! you are out there)
I have just ordered my new 2008 V6 TDI due in Aug and want to change the standard wheels from 17 to 19 in rims. Not prepared to pay the rip off price from VW. :n:
In trying to avoid having to have the ECM changed (the dealer is VERY reluctant to do it unless it's VW Wheels) therefore trying to keep the same rolling diameter.
Anyone got any ideas on a nice rim and good allround tyres?:confused:

Tezza, the sky's the limit in response to what aftermarket wheels you can go for. Some of the SUV range from BBS, OZ Racing and Work (select Gallery from the webpage) look very nice IMO. They are high quality and world renowned but that also means they're expensive! Searching for wheels ain't easy at all, but hope I've helped you in starting somewhere!

Today I tried to fit a stock ek civic wheel on my mk3, wouldnt get on though. It wouldnt sit on the smaller hub circley thing. PCD and everything else seems to be ok, but when push comes to shove (quite literally), we couldnt get it on.
