hey dudes, quick question.

if you have some 5x100 PCD wheels and you wanted to make them 4x100, could you get them drilled to suit and it still be safe? (i know, im the mechanical engineer but i have other assignments to do - might as well see if anyones done it first). assuming the hubs are solid alloy and quite beefy.

i've heard tell of someone doing this kind of thing...

i've also seen a gemini with 5x114 wheels drilled to 4x100 - but in that case the PCD is different. in my case, you can have a common hole, but 2 sets of holes seem to be pretty close to eachother.

on the other hand, how easily can i do a 5 stud conversion?

People do it all the time. Sometimes they have the unused holes filled in sometimes not.

evorobin has had a few sets done. 5 stud to 5 stud is good cause you can stick them in the middle of the existing holes. redrilling your drums and tapping them wouldn't be that bad. Converting the front to 5 stud is a toughy.

The best way would be some conversion adapters if the offsets suited it.

The top and bottom holes in your picture have plenty of land around them. I vote you just drill them and get busy. Make sure the countersink is done to suit the stud you plan to use. VW ones are curved not straight.

You can buy 4x100 - 5x100 adapters from a number of places. It just depends on the offset of the wheels, though

That'll give ET18 with the spacers, which is fine with rolled guards if you have them, and a 7" wide wheel

Milan at TCCA was telling me that you can get adapters as low as 15-20mm correct if I'm wrong, but they are expensive H&R they are.

20mm is about as low as you can go converting the PCD safely

about how much might i be lookin at to get some 4x98's drilled between the holes to 4x100 do you think? (i'm looking at a set of old alfa wheels)
