VWR Springs

While I know this is a topic that has been obviously done many times I haven't been able to find too much local information on VWR springs for the mk6 GTI (plenty of positive stuff from the USA).

What I am after is feedback from anyone who has had these put on their mk6, particularly ride quality v stock and any issues with rubbing etc especially either with rear passengers and/or significant luggage in the back, and I guess the issues of rear rake.

Am looking for that 20-25mm drop which I understand causes no issues with the rest of the stock components, I'm aware of the DG springs and various local commentary on them, but I guess for looks (at least stationery!) would probably prefer the lower drop on VWRs or similar.

I've had them installed in my Skoda Octavia VRS (2L Turbo) which is MKV suspension and TSI engine
The box the VMR springs came in says "for MKV/MKVI"

There is no risk of rubbing at all - even at the rear

If you are concerned about ride quality, it's likely they may not be for you
They are in fact noticeably firmer - I was initially surprised and wondered if I had made a mistake
I got used to it quickly however - you will find passengers will notice the firmness (most won't like it)

I don't have an issue if it's not too much firmer, I would expect that generally any drop would result in some increase in firmness.

I wonder if they became a little more compliant as they settled in?

I was just hoping for something that would drop the car a little without being too harsh.. was there any noticeable reduction in body roll?

Funny you should mention settling in!
I've had the springs for 1 week now,
driving to work this morning I braced myself for a firm ride
To my surprise, the ride today was not as harsh as last week!
I was thinking I was going to have to eat my words of caution - lol
Make no mistake, it's still a pretty firm ride that would not be described as comfortable
But I'm finding it less harsh and easy to live with (having a motorsport mindset)

I installed APR roll bars at the same time
They have made a really good improvement in hard cornering - car remains very flat and nicely balanced
I doubt you will get much roll improvement from just springs

Ha, maybe there's a little more settling in still to go, but interesting to get local feedback because the US forums pretty much all say it's comparable to stock - although they may also have different stock settings to us in the first place.

I may need to consider the sway bar option as well.

Is there any option then to get a little drop without adversely affecting ride too much?

Yes - apparently US run softer spring rates

I'm not aware of any ride height drop options that won't change ride comfort
Shocks with adjustable ride height typically use linear springs rather than progressive springs
These shocks are going to be ~$1,200 and will give a firmer ride

Ahh that may explain that then (although if they went from softer springs to the VWRs you'd expect they'd whinge more).

Have been exploring the adjustable coil-overs route, just thinking they're overkill for my needs, especially given the jump up in costs.

I know there are some other alternatives out there, the DG springs that WhiteJames uses, and a few of the others are on Eibach etc. just seemed an easy option to pick something off the shelf.

BTW, love that Octavia, the height looks good and the black wheels on grey is working for me.

When I first had them installed, I noticed they were immediately quite a bit firmer than stock.
I don't know about them settling, but I just think I am used to it now. It's not uncomfortable at all though.
I had my H&R rear sway installed at the same time, and roll and pitch are definitely reduced and handled better.
No issues with rubbing with 4 people on board.
The drop in height looks great too.
If you don't mind abit of added firmness, then they're really good.

Thanks for that, I can handle a firmer ride if it doesn't reach the stage of being uncomfortable.. also good to know the ride height isn't an issue for rubbing. Don't often carry people in the back, but figured a couple of suitcases on a holiday trip could be an issue if driving became enthusiastic.

Sounds like I may need to consider some sway bars then as well.. something else to research!

Hey there guys,was wondering if anyone has tried out the springs that APR bring in,they advertise them being VWR springs and recon they have no damaging effects using them with standard MK6 GTI shocks??
P.s some pics would be great of the finished product if you have some.
