M12x1.5 is used by models Mk3 non-VR6 and earlier. M14x1.5 is used for Mk4 and later + Mk3 VR6.
What you can do is widen those bolt holes to accept 14mm. Should be easily done by a machinist.
hi all,
i know the mk4s have 14mm wheel bolts. But what do the others have??
Reason im asking is i have some new wheels with a 12mm bolt holes, this is no problem currently as ill be running custom made adapters to 114.3, but later on if i move on to a mk5, mk6, passat etc id like to reuse the above wheels with wobble bolts.
Cheers, dylan

While on bolts... Will wobble bolts work through a 14mm hole in the wheel to a 14mm hole in the hub? Or should i get the wheels opened up to 15mm or so? Seems to be ok from my research onthe net. Just wanted to double check, stud pattern is 5x114.3 wheel to 5x112
To me, it doesn't sound like it'll work as a PCD of 114.3 and bolt hole diameter of 14mm means there won't be any "play" for the wobble bolt to locate on a PCD of 5x112... but best to be able to try and fit it for real to know for sure.
hmmm me neither! but everyone else on wheel forums seem to be doing it. wheels must have slightly bigger holes in them?
I dont really have a chance to try them as the wheels are down in melbourne ready for work, only thought of this the other day.
so really for a 112 to 114.3 im only needing to gain 1.15mm each side, so if i increased the openings in the wheels to 15.2-15.5 from 14mm i should be right yeah? but still enough meat to hold them on with bolts for the correct pcd...?
Sounds right to me. Make sure there's still a taper for the bolt head to seat on to.
actually the holes need to be 16.3mm dia (did a quick cad drawing)
I cant see anything about people needing larger holes though
