VR6 Strut Bearing

Hey guys, I have a 95 VR6 and I am about to order some coilovers for it and I have been told that I should replace strut bearings at the same time. Are all of the strut mounts the same on the VR's? I thought I read somewhere that the early ones where different, but now I can't find that info anywhere. Is it a fairly easy job to do the swap, and will I need a spring compressor?

The early ones didn't have a bearing, but the updated ones do. I suggest you just buy a whole new set of strut mounts and fit them with the coils, and no unless you have halfway decent strut mounts to begin with in the existing shocks set up you wouldn't need a spring compressor to take them out.

You should replace the mounts as well as the bearings if the car has 100,000kms + on the original suspension.

You can get a pair of HD mounts and bearings for $55 plus shipping.


The mount on the left is a new HD one and the one on the right is the stock VR6 mount. The HD ones tend to last longer as they have a bit more meat on them.

that would probably be the only thing that you need to worry about whilst the suspension is out.
Depending on how many kms you car has on it you might want to inspect the control arm bushes and the swaybar links as well. Just so everything is all nice and fresh up front.
