Tyre repair kit for long term use?

    Hi all

I have questions in regards to the use of the "temporarely" tyre repair kit.

I bought the car from Barloworld a few weeks ago. its GTi and it only has 9000km on it.
I checked the car conditions before I bought it and am very happy with it. BUT I didn't check the tyre properly, knowing it's only 9000km I thought the tyres would've been good.

Yesterday when I was washing the car I found one of the tyre has got a temporarely tyre repair kit on it. see pic

The location of the whole is on the edge of the tyres. I showed this picture to the tyre repairer and they said that they could not repair it and I will need new tyre. They also said that this repair kit is not meant to be used for long term!

Should have Barloworld told me that I'd need a new tyre before I bought it? or should have they replaced the tyre first before selling it to me?

Is this repair kit safe to be used for a long period of time?

Any advise would be much appreciated.

    Tyre should've been binned.

Never repair them that close to the sidewall.

Those plugs are only ever temporary. Theres a more permanent repair, but requires unmounting the tyre from the wheel.

That's called a dog turd & afaik they are illegal these days - or "For Off Road use only". That corner where the tread meats the sidewall is particularly bad & shouldn't be repaired. The way they have fixed it is half-baked too as you should cut then off as close to flush as possible.

It's fair to assume BarlowWorld wasn't even aware of the dog turd as they usually sell cars that are roadworthy. About all you can do is take it up with them. Keep in mind they'll probably want to supply the cheapest, skankiest tyre they can so you might have to find a midpoint where they make a fiancial contribution & you make up the difference.

Keep in mind that if it's a 17" you are looking at maybe $160 tops & 18" $220 for something decent so how far you push it for that amount of $$$ is your call. They'll probably just say that you got the puncture after delivery.

    Thanks

I will email them and see what they'll say. I am not going to argue with them over it. I'll replace the tyre myself.

But I will mention to them about the 100 (?) points check of the car before delivering it to me.

Btw, I have driven it for more than 1000ks since I bought the car and have been on the free way. Luckily it didn't go flat on me while I was on it.

Emailed Barlo and they came back to me as soon as they saw my email. They must have missed it when checking the tyre.

They asked me to replace the tyre and send them the invoice and they will pay for it!

Very happy with them - great service!
