Wow Matt Were the 195/40R17 readily available? I'm actually (well, may be) looking for a set in the near future. What brand/model/load rating?

Hi Ray, they were already on the RS when i got them sent over here from Ireland mate. They are Pirelli P Zero Nero, not sure about load rating.

Steve I'd go with 195/45's all round too. Remember your engine is a fatty and the load rating will suffer if anything below 205/45 is involved, so 195/45 is already collar-pulling!

Thanks for that Matt and Raymond, I think the tyre choice will be a 195/45 but first I need to sell the other ones and also need to find a good decent set

anyone offer generalised price differences from 195/45 and 205/45 (16")

i've been buying 205's for my car and seem to differ from around $220 each for conti sport, to $130 for nexen n6000 (doing 50,000km/year, you can guess which tyre's i bought)

i never thought to price 195's though... are they cheaper?

I know it's the same price for 195/45 and 205/40. I bought a pair of each (Nankang NS2) for $130/each about a year ago. Can't help you with the 205/45 though.

And WTF, 50,000km/year? Where do you drive to Aydan?

The cheapest i found the Conti Sport Contacts in 195/45/16 was $800 for the lot including fitting/balance and allignment. That was in Brookvale NSW in 2005.

ahh so the 195/45 are about hte same price as the 205/45's then.

live in gosford, work in hornsy and missus works in north ryde - so i do gosford, hornsby, north ryde, gosford. i generally do 140km 5 days a week, or quite often 140km 4 days and about 300km one day a week... it all adds up. from october 07 to october 08 i put 50,500km on the car. in the year i spent about $5.5K on fuel.

last set of tyres were the dreaded Neuton NT5000's (indonesia) which i got 36,000km from, with some tread left over (i bought a new set because i wanted to get a wheel alignment).

in the past year i've drained 24L of oil out of the car in oil changes (always penrite HPR Diesel semi-synthetic)....

so yeah, thats why i'm a diesel nutter
