Not sure how there tyre prices fair compared to tirerack, but they will sell OZ racing wheels (unlike tirerack) at a good price.

The set I'm after is £890 posted (£640 wheels and £250 postage) but there going to put a total of £890 on the invoice so I'm a bit worried ill get slapped with taxes.
i used performancealloys. so im not sure about that mob u mentioned. price seems ok, just get the rims from them and tyres from tirerack.
worst case scenario is u will have to pay customs, but on that amount, it will only be on the $200 or so that is over $1000. (the converted amount is about $1290 or something) so it wont be a whole lot
alternatively, email them and see if they can change the pound sign to a dollar sign

    An old thread.

Has anyone actually purchased Michelin Pilot Super Sport (225/45R17) and stuck them on their GTI? - What was your end price. If allowed to ship to oz, they are $620 something for 4 plus shipping (which I'm assuming i around $300-$400.)

THey work well? Mine came form factory with Dunlop Maxx RT which I've been ok with, tends to understeer which feels like side wall movement to me. I know the PSS has a stiffer sidewall.

Also is anyone aware of any legal issues of running these tyres? I.e insurance being denied as a tyre not sold in australia were being used. (sure PSS re available here in Australia but only R18/R19 configurations) Not looking for opinions, looking for facts on this one.

    Cheers

Check the load and speed ratings. If you fit tyres with lower load /speed rating than is specified for your car this will effect your insurance.

As long as the load and speed ratings are correct you should not have an issue.

I had a tirerack quote late last year for US$330.00 for PSS in 245 and 275 x 19. I would expect that the 17" tyres would be no more than $300.00. Current exchange are going to hurt and total will be well over A$1,000.00. Splitting your order will likely cost you about US $200.00 for 2 tyres.

Tireack shipping was very quick and efficent.

No idea how the PSS perform on a GTi. Brilliant on a C63.

Australian vehicle standards stipulate that passenger car tyres must comply with the requirements of ADR 23.

ADR 23 also states that UNECE Regulation No. 30 is deemed equivalent to the technical requirements of ADR 23.

Thus, the easiest way of determining if a tyre complies with UNECE R30 (and hence ADR 23) is to check if it has an E-mark on the sidewall.

ADR 23 also states that passenger car tyres must have a marking on one sidewall indicating the week and year of manufacture.

There is nothing in the regulations that deals with a tyre's market availability or place of origin or manufacture.

If a tyre complies with the requirements of ADR 23 (as per above), then it can used on the public highway.

Australian roadworthy regulations stipulate that any replacement tyre fitted to a passenger vehicle built after 1972 must:

    - be rated for a speed of at least 180 km/h; and

    - have a load rating that is at least equivalent to those of the original tyres.

Note: a speed rating of 180 km/h corresponds to a speed symbol of S.

The Michelin PSS sidewall only has 1 ply layer of polyester, doubt it is any stiffer than the dunlop maxx rt. i know the previous dunlop sport maxx gt had 2 ply layers of polyester (stiffer).

If you want performance tyres with stiff sidewall, without going to the extreme (eg advan neova ad08r), bridgestone potenza s001 would be the answer, or the older design re050a.

I actually run Michelin PSS on my daily wheels set. So far they have been great for street use within the road rules boundaries

Understeer.. I assume you are talking about driving on closed circuit, not on public roads where there are ofter other drivers sharing the road with you. Because if you get understeer on our public roads, it simply means you are exceeding the speed limits (or really bad car set up).

To remove understeer.. first you should check how you drive in terms of maintaining the car weight transfer before corner entry (if you get understeer on corner entry).

If your complain is on understeer on corner exit... you should wait until your front wheels are pointing straight before flooring it... otherwise a mechanical lsd is the answer for a FWD machine (plus stiffer RSB, good coilovers set, etc etc etc..)

Australia now accepts overseas approvals as being OK here. It's in the ADR 23 or 42 (24 has been superceded).

ADR 23 allows for tyres to be approved in countries other than Australia & the approval to be valid here. You look for an E in a circle.

ADR42 might also touch on certain aspects of tyre fitment.
