In my humble opinion, with normal sort of widths I'd expect a lower offset than +50, maybe 8" wide with something in the late 30s. 7.5" wide with ET +35 is a pretty safe bet, but hardly aggro.

what about 18x8 +45 ?

Well was thinking of either the black or maybe even a hyper matte silver on my '10 golf 103tdi.
Only doing it because my sister scarped the crap out of mine a little while back.
Decided I'd save up and just get 18's sometime rather than paint so it's all good.

i'll probably just bite the bullet and get 18"s too now as removing the wheels and tyres is a PITA esp as i dont have a spare set to put on the car temporarily (matte black on pepper grey polo).

i'm sure i could sell the 17" and recoup some of the cost too
