    Redrill from 5X114.3 to 4X100

As stated above is this physically possible? I would understand that going to 4X114.3 from a 5X114.3 is reasonable but is it possible to go to 4x100. Theres a set of wheels I just had my eye on and was wondering whether I should keeo my hopes up

I think the best way is to have it checked by the machinist. You'll have two things to overcome - if the centrebore is small enough to support a small PCD (4x100); and if the mounting surface is flat.

I had a set of wheels that had a 70mm centrebore and the wheel machinist didn't recommend doing it as the holes would have been perilously close to the centrebore hole. The mounting face wasn't flat either, but wedged, so it ruled out any hopes of safely redrilling new holes.

Hmmmnn I'll definately have to have a look into them, either call or inspect them myself. As for what they are, they're Auto Strada RM600's 2 piece wheels which are 16x7.5 +29, 16x8+29wheels 5x114.3 respectively, the price is what caught my attention.

And here is a picture of the same rims with the centers painted black, but in a 15X6 inch and as a 4X100 PCD.

Sorry my photobucket refuses to work

You can get the old holes welded/filled then redrilled to 4x100, but if they arent flat faced on the back then you may run into a few problems with that!

Ive been looking at the Work Stiches at the bottom of the page, would look awsome on a MK3, and great sizes

i have seen (with my own eyes) 5x144.3 redrilled to 4x100 - and it scared me. i'm a mechanical engineer, and i did not like the proximity of the holes to eachother.

welding up the holes and total redrilling would work, but you'd want it done properly, not bodgily.

i got a quote just for the redrilling from a proper, good machinist, for $40/wheel. thats a good price. but to weld up all the holes in aluminium, i would expect a lot more.

unless ofcourse you only want them for show, not to drive on

I had a look at that style of rim and it doesn't have a flat back, and the centre bore is 70mm apparently, doesn't look like I could do it
I'll just have to try to find that magic 4X100 set which does exist as we can quite clearly see from the first post

Although interestingly, AutoStrada stopped making wheels close to 15 years ago, they made really high quality 2 piece racing and road wheels for Ferrari's, Lamborghini's and Fiats. Remember the F40 wheels, yep Autostradas too! those rims themselves could be anywhere between 15-20 years old...

Vintage, those rims are worth alot more than whats advertised there... like 3 fold from what I've seen from other Autostrada rims.

and yes I agree with you lorenz, those stich rims are quite nice, 4x100 to 4X114.3 adapters anyone?

Not with those offsets I'm afraid!

I hear you on the Autostradas though. They would look at home on an old-school European car. Too bad we don't know where the market is for them!

Haha, oh dear you are right on the money there ray, +25 -35mm for the adapters -10 on an 8 inch rim... oh golly golly gosh

It can be done... just not with pretty consequences.

Yeah I had no idea about the Autostrada's till I searched online, almost like the Italian BBS of the 70's to early 90's. They made some pretty cool stuff I must say, and those black centered 15's would look great on a mk1-2 as well.

I'm going to hopefully have a go at some dish rims 16X8's with 15+ offset front and rear soon, thats if I can get the rims for the right price of course
    ie. cheap lol...

Mind you they won't fit normally, not for the front at least I'll need to roll... no, not roll butcher, the arches to fit them in. My dad will help on that one.
