Maybe try a sealant like this one
Car Care Products / Nanolex / Exterior / Wheel Sealant / Alloy Rim Sealant Kit
After spending a good afternoon polishing one of my wheels yesterday (still have three to go ) I'd like to know if people just leave them at this stage or if they put a clear coat over them to protect them from tarnishing? It's not quite a mirror finish but its getting close, will they usually stay this way if they're kept clean or is a clear a good option
thanks
Dan

depending how far you take the polish there isnt a conventional laquer that will stick to a polished surface, your simple choices are either an acid etch based laquer or a powdercoated clear laquer, less simple would be looking at clear or tinted anodised finishes. Any off the laquered finishes will reduce the shine and imo offers a false sense of security and only changes the type of upkeep they will need and still lower the end look. Id take the bare polish as far as your fingers will take it then before fitting give them several coats of a good wheel wax then a sealant like poorboys or similar. They will still need a regular cleaning effort though
I know of two products that are used especially for highly polished surfaces - POR15's Glisten PC, and Zoop Seal. Glisten PC you can readily buy from places that stock POR15 stuff, but Zoop Seal is a lot harder to find. I know there's a classic car resto joint down in Melbourne that distributes them, but I've misplaced their business card! If I find it, I'll note it down here. The only leads I have on them are that they were trading at the Victorian Hot Rod Show hosted by VHRA earlier this year.
From reading feedback on other forums, most have praised Zoop Seal whereas with Glisten PC, the mirror-finish is dimmed a little, but nowhere as bad as clearcoat lacquer.
