Yeah, damn, that's what I thought So is it not as simple as (somehow) getting the wheels back to bare metal and giving it some autosol treatment?

You would use paint stripper to remove the paint. If you use a media blasting method, that roughens the surface and you have to polish through that.

You'd probably have to start with say, 320 (depending on the finish to start with) wet+dry and work your way up to about 1200. Then hit it with Autosol. If i was doing it i'd polish all in the same direction along the faces, that way you blend the scratches into eachother and it's faster.

This was my initial thought, which came from seeing Dom's bora sport wheels in a metallic colour. If I were to repaint them they'd definitely be metallic.

It'll take you a bit.. Like more than one full weekend. And it's not easy.
Amen to that. I spent 1 1/2 days doing mine and got 1 perfect and the other 3 only stripped!

It's a treat seeing them all nice and polished though, it's worth the attention and sore fingers!

x2 on the treatment being black/shadow chrome with the BMW wheel. One of the features in PVW recently had a white Mk3 with black/shadow chrome Schmidt Modernlines. Looked good I thought. Hard to DIY a similar finish.
