What model bbs? No rs or rm iv laid my eyes on can have too much taken off without been questionable. Just from the ones iv seen anyway

They were 17x8 ET35. I wanted to bring them back to ET45 - partly because they had too much poke on the front (at least 6mm) & partly because the OEM bolts weren't getting full engagement with the hub threads (4mm). They guy said I could get ET43 (8mm) max off them. In the end I didn't bother. The wheels with tyres cost me ~$400 and were pretty tatty so I didn't think it worth doing the offset change without a full refurb. In the end I drove on them for about 10,000km & sold them for ~$320.

Who knows, maybe if I'd gone ahead with it the machinist would have done half a job and only taken 4mm off or buggered them?

Just a question as Im unsure of the rules here. Is it legal to modify in any way a Mag wheel.

The reason I ask is because in NZ when running mags I had someone buckle one of mine just lightly on outer edge.

It was able to be cold rolled and was OK but was told that in no way could it be ground, drilled or welded.

Seems from this thread that it is common to do it here.

Yes, it's legal to weld / repair them. If done properly, the weld is stronger than the surrounding alloy. Unfortunately, the standard of workmanship often leaves a lot to be desired.

It was just gonna be to much work and still wouldn't fit right! Don't get me wrong I'm shattered, but I'm not gonna rape bbs wheels when someone else can enjoy them

Fair enough man! I really wasn't expecting them to poke like they did, it must be the polo rear suspension setup or how flat the arches are, on a different car et15 6.5J would probably tuck. I can get away with 8J et20 on mine, but obviously it's a different year polo.

Can any wheel expert please help me; I'm currently running 17 " Denvers on my mk6 Golf 90tsi, they are 7.5" wide with 51 offset. I'm now thinking of buying some 17" aftermarket wheels of the same 7.5" width but with 45mm offset. My question is I'll like to know the few downsides/tradeoffs on suspension/handling for pushing the wheels out by 5mm? Thanks.

Scrub radius? No idea what the even means.
Look at your current wheels. Can you cope with the being 5mm further out? I'd imagine you won't be able to see or feel the difference. Not like you are going to 9" wide wheels or something
